The Principal Trainer is responsible for training end users and developing curriculum on AltaMed technical/clinical systems and applications, included, but not limited to Ambulatory Electronic Health Records (EMR), Managed Care Referral System, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Interactive Intelligence (ININ), and other technical systems. This position is responsible for the development, validation, and training of workflows for AltaMed staff on new or updated core software products targeting a variety of audiences (Medical Assistants, Nurses, Physicians, Dentists, etc. for Medical and Dental Front/Back Office, Health Information Management, Contact Center and corporate business units). Trainers will be responsible for training staff and creating training materials including, but not limited to:
Instructor guides, practice books, user guides, PowerPoints, tip sheets, support guides, and additional supplemental materials. The PT will also be responsible for building and maintaining the training environment, keeping it up to date with new software upgrades and changes in curriculum or software build. During any clinical system implementation, this position will also be responsible for completing assigned tasks within the implementation project scope and leading the education efforts for projects assigned to him/her. This position will support end-users in a 1-1 format in the clinic or in other healthcare related environments.

Assist in the development and maintenance of education tools relating to system updates and various organizational initiatives. Assist in developing, modifying, and validating curriculum, content, materials, and training environment to meet the needs of end users.
Deliver appropriate level of instruction and evaluations for each user. Develop and deliver communication to targeted audiences regarding basic EMR system changes. Collaborate with other trainers, educators, Informaticists, Analysts, and Subject Matter Experts to ensure delivery of effective and accurate training to impacted users.
Understand various workflows affecting each unique clinic model. Actively participate in organizational projects, implementations and initiatives. Identify clinical system training needs and support for providers and staff as well as mentor new providers and staff on the system.
Identify problems and issues with the clinical system applications that affect the delivery of care and report issues as identified to the Information Service (IS) helpdesk. Educate and coach medical providers and staff on clinical system application processes and provide relevant clinical system application tips to improve efficiency. Reviews clinical system application workflows and suggests changes as needed.
Develops AltaMed-specific training materials for group training sessions (PowerPoint, handouts, Windows Media) for system applications. Provides end-user follow up assistance and support as planned and escalates to Training Manager as necessary. Conducts follow-up end-user trainings, one-on-one or group as needed.
Provides on-site go live support and end-user assistance for application sites as appropriate. Hosts end-user clinical systems training, super-user training (train the trainer), and user acceptance training. Provides front-end support with end-users to ensure that functionality of the clinical system is being optimized. Acts as a clinical system "champion", conveying the positive impact of the project on our staff and patients.
Other Job Duties:
19. Serves as a liaison with Clinical Informatics and IS Department to address technical support issues and questions as it relates to training of clinical systems and
provides feedback on clinical template design as needed.
20. Assesses end-user system proficiency and partners with Health Information Technical Training Instructional Designers to develop and update evaluation tools based
on team feedback for subject retention and ROI analysis.
21. Continuously assesses training needs to increase job proficiency and/or improve team work and daily operations.
22. Collects "service level" data on how long it takes to teach providers and staff to perform clinical system application processes/workflows.
23. Assists in the development of plans to monitor data and quality post go-live, collaborate with administrators and clinicians to achieve data quality goals.
24. Partners with Training Manager and/or Training Coordinator to create and maintain training calendar.
25. Assists Training Manager with organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling training classes and work assignments.
26. Supports other Health Information Technical Training Specialists as needed with training classes and projects.
27. Serves as a resource to Training team for 3rd party applications, and leads by example.
28. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare, information technology, biological sciences, education, English, communications is required, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 5 years of technical training experience with Epic System to clinical staff, including providers, nurses, MAs, etc. and adult training principles required.
Alternatively, 5 years of instruction experience at a traditional secondary, collegiate, or adult school level or technical training experience with medical/dental devices or corporate training experience. A minimum of 5 years of Program/Project Management experience providing cross-functional coordination is required.
A minimum of 5 years of creating, researching, designing/writing, or improving training programs or curriculums (classroom and virtual) is required.
A minimum of 3 years of experience rolling out complex training programs to a large population (1500+ people) is required Experience providing thoughtful analysis toward curriculum development is required. Experience building and maintain collaborative relationships with internal personnel, business owners, and stakeholders.
Experience presenting training proposals to stakeholders.
Epic credentials preferred with current or past organization, and the ability to secure Epic Certification through AltaMed during the first 6 months of employment is required Intermediate proficiency with Windows based application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, as well as SharePoint). Preferred experience leading EPIC training efforts at various stages of go live and stabilizations. Preferred experience working in a healthcare environment related to clinical and business system applications training and education. Informatics certifications or credentialing a plus.
