The Operational Database Administrator (ODBA) is a critical, hands-on role responsible for installing and administering our operational database (ODB) environments. The administrator performs environment set up and configuration, proactive monitoring and maintenance.


Responsibilities include:


Creating and managing the ODB environments that serve production, reporting, disaster recovery, training , and non-production needs.

Installing and maintaining the administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high levels of availability and performance of our Epic system.

Understanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues. Managing the logins for different types of access, including login behavior and working environment configuration.

Applying Cach# and Epic upgrades and updates to production and non-production environments.

Configuring and maintaining environment copies according to the environment strategy. Responding to emergency and after-hours issues.

Engaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources.

Collaborating with our technical teams and Epic to ensure proactive support. Writing and maintaining scripts to improve system management tasks.

Participating in our change control process for all planned application and technical activities.

Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity. Following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration. # The Epic Operational Database Administrator will work with IS staff, IS Management and key personnel from other departments to identify, develop, implement and support cost-effective and functional information security solutions for all aspects of the organization. # Two year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other healthcare information technology-related field required. Bachelor#s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other healthcare technology -related field preferred.

Minimum 2 years# experience in information technology as a database administrator with UNIX / Linux administrator skills.

Strong Unix skills using the command-line prompt, including navigating directory structures and file manipulation requried.# Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc. required.

Knowledge of a command shell (Korn, POSIX, Bourne, or C), plus languages and utilities such as awksed, and Perl required.

Must have ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedure. Must be familiar with the information needs of FHC management.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to exercise independent judgment required.

Must be capable of managing limited resources over a project#s life. Valid North Carolina Driver#s license with ability to travel between FirstHealth facilities required. # Epic certification in assigned applications within 6 weeks of completion of final Epic course required. # #
