Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for an Epic Wisdom Application Analyst to come to work with our dental clinics and our School of Dentistry. These practices have not yet deployed the use of Epic, so this will be a chance to assist with a go-live and help implement the Wisdom software module for our dental professionals. This expansion of our ambulatory environment using Epic is an exciting opportunity.

You will be responsible for the ongoing design, build, testing, validation, and support of the Wisdom module across the healthcare system. This analyst works with operational stakeholders and IT technical staff to troubleshoot Epic system issues and problems, capture requirements for new initiatives, and aid in the planning and execution of project plans. You will also work with end users to help communicate improvements needed for business processes and contribute directly to the success of the UTHealth mission from a technological, clinical, administrative, and financial perspective.

Typical experience should include:

  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of Epic master files to build and configure the Epic Wisdom module.

  • Experience with Epic SmartForms, SmartTools, and Dashboards.

  • Experience with the Data Courier process, creating tickets, and tracking builds moved to TST & PRD.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with other Epic Application teams

This person will need to be certified in Wisdom through Epic or have several certifications and extensive experience with this module. It is a remote position, but we prefer candidates living in Texas. We are a State of Texas Agency and have excellent benefits.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.Maintains expertise and seeks additional knowledge in the support and optimization of assigned Epic module(s), and how they integrate with other applications.

2.Works cohesively with stakeholders to provide system support, including analysis, build, and testing of requested changes and analysis of new functionality of applications.

3.Reviews, builds, tests, and implements new functionality via System Upgrades and Special Updates.

4.Works and manages multiple tasks independently.

5.Demonstrates timely, effective, and efficient troubleshooting of software and workflow issues and defines mitigation plan for resolution with minimal guidance.

6.Develop and document internal procedures to use in conjunction with Epic applications.

7.Meets build deadlines as communicated by the Application Director.

8.Develop and maintain system documentation to enable ongoing support and maintenance of the Epic system.

9.Assists the Application Director in developing build timelines and project plans as communicated by leadership.



  1. Performs unit testing of application configurations and builds in appropriate non-production environments to identify defects and create resolution plans accordingly.

  2. Participates in the creation of relevant and meaningful test scripts for application, integrated, and end-user acceptance testing.

  3. Performs testing in a structured manner, follows any defined test scripts, and documents results.

  4. Performs unit testing of application configurations and builds in appropriate non-production environments and identifies issues and potential solutions.

  5. Follows established guidelines for system change control.

  6. Creates and maintains documentation for change management, including cost estimation, project documentation, communication, and training plans.

  7. Collaborates across teams to ensure process design, interface development, testing, and end-user training are performed to quality standards.

  8. Independently performs basic project management activities to develop and implement system changes and small to medium projects.

  9. Develops applications specific reports; provides technical specification and assistance to report developers as needed.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.


Certification/Skills:

  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including specific skills of presentation and effective communication of complex subjects to non-technical groups.

  • Superior customer relation skills, including leading and participating in group sessions and reaching consensus.

  • Familiarity with project lifecycle and project management methodologies for software management.

  • Ability to plan and manage projects of various sizes, their tasks, dependencies, team members, other resources, and timelines.

  • The analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems or design relative systems and programs that cross department/divisional lines.

APPLICANTS MUST BE CERTIFIED IN THE EPIC WISDOM MODULE OR HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO BE CERTIFIED WITHIN 30 TO 60 DAYS OF HIRE.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, business or a related discipline; equivalent years of related experience in health care or information technology will be considered in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience:

Four (4) years of experience in a healthcare-related field is required. One (1) year of experience supporting one or more Epic modules is required, and experience with Wisdom is preferred. Large scale health care systems planning and implementation experience on application software products preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
