Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Academy is seeking a dynamic and passionate Current Events Instructor to join our team. The EOP Summer Academy aims to provide students from diverse backgrounds with enriching educational experiences, preparing them for success in college and beyond. As a Current Events Instructor, you will have the opportunity to engage students in discussions, activities, and projects focused on contemporary global and local issues.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons on current events, incorporating multimedia resources, guest speakers, and interactive activities.

  • Facilitate discussions on a wide range of topics, encouraging critical thinking and respectful dialogue among students.

  • Help students develop their research, analytical, and communication skills through assignments and projects related to current events.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to express their opinions and perspectives.

  • Collaborate with other instructors and program staff to integrate current events content into the broader curriculum of the EOP Summer Academy.

  • Provide feedback and support to students to help them strengthen their understanding of current events and enhance their academic performance.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, International Relations, Education, Journalism).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current events and their significance, with a strong understanding of both global and local issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students effectively.

  • Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability in designing and delivering instructional content to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
