    SAIC is seeking an EO/IR Research Engineer to support our operations at Eglin AFB, FL.

SAIC applies cutting edge science and technology, high performance computing resources and advanced laboratory technology to the problem of developing and testing advanced multi-spectral seeker systems and components for the United States Air Force (USAF). The successful applicant will play a key role in laboratory testing, including test design, development, construction, setup, test data collection and post test data analysis of advanced IR sensor concepts and components.

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating with the concept team on understanding the operational principles and modes of the unit under test and applying that knowledge to the construction of appropriate test hardware.

  • The successful applicant will support laboratory test, including setup, debugging, operation and documentation.

  • The successful applicant will be involved in the set up and testing of IR projector technology including subsystems and components.

  • The successful applicant will need to be able to work effectively both within a team and individually.

  • The successful applicant ideally has experience in many of the following areas; optical components, optical test station alignment, data collection and analysis, experience using visible or IR cameras, precision voltmeters, oscilloscopes and other test equipment.

  • Education & Experience:*

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or physicsplus five (5) years of experience

  • Master's degree plus three (3) years of experience, or

  • Experience with programming tools such as MATLAB or Python is desired, C++ would also be acceptable for an applicant willing to learn MATLAB and/or Python. Coding experience in the area of image processing desirable.

  • General knowledge of optics along with lab experience with optics, collimators and visible or IR cameras desirable.

  • Experience using and writing code to externally control electronic test equipment, oscilloscopes, precision voltmeters desirabl

  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems

  • Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance.

(ARA), Emerald Coast Division, is currently seeking a Staff Engineer with 0 to 4 years of experience to work in our Fuze Sciences team. ARA offers a full range of capabilities in support of our nation's most difficult defense missions. Our specialty is finding innovative solutions to complex technical problems. In this position, the candidate will assist a senior scientist in the design, assembly, set-up, operation, and data analysis of mechanical shock test apparatuses to investigate the performance of fuze components under dynamic load. The candidate must be comfortable conducting laboratory and field experiments, analyzing data and presenting results. Specific responsibilities for this position include: * Execute provided test plans by setting up the experiment, conducting the test (operating the apparatus, acquiring the data) and performing data reduction. * Operate and maintain shock testing apparatus designed to reproduce the harsh environment generated in hard target attack by kinetic energy weapons. * Work with a team of engineers and technicians in the design, construction, testing, and characterization of new test capabilities. * Coordinate and work with existing modeling and simulation efforts to design and enhance the development of these capabilities and validate the numerical simulations. * Assist with instrumentation and field testing of fuze systems in these test facilities to better understand their response to severe dynamic environments. * Document the research and development of these capabilities through technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and conference presentations. Required Skills: * Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field such as mechanical or electrical engineering, applied mechanics, or physics * Experience assembling electronics, including soldering * Proficiency with solid modeling software, especially SolidWorks is a plus * Effective oral and written communication skills * Ability to work independently Position Requirements: * Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and will need to maintain a DoD security clearance Desired Qualifications: * Experience with MATLAB for data analysis * Experience with LabVIEW for data acquisition * Experience with sensors and instrumentation * Experience conducting laboratory and/or field experiments Applied Research Associates, Inc.
