EOC Financial Literacy and Youth Development- Karen Society

Located in downtown Buffalo, The Service Collaborative is seeking AmeriCorps members to join the Economic Opportunity Corps (EOC). EOC AmeriCorps are placed in local nonprofits and provide the community with essential financial literacy, financial wellness, and programmatic support. For this AmeriCorps opportunity, financial literacy service encompasses a variety of issue areas including but not limited to coaching & tutoring, legal, housing, and public benefits supports, financial aid assistance, managing community programs, outreach, and other program aligned direct service.

EOC service is tailored to the specific host-site and the population served by the organization. All EOC members should anticipate providing a combination of financial education, client management, program implementation/design, and service projects. EOC members are not required to have prior financial or human services experience.

What we look for is a willingness and attitude to commit yourself to a term of service. We want individuals who are thoughtful, kind, hardworking, and have a passion for creating positive change. Please note that COVID-19 continues to have an impact on some of our programming.

Member Duties : The KSB EOC member will assist in planning and running our Youth Program, including offering a Financial Literacy component. They will also help KSB to build upon a new Working Families Program for adults, geared toward fostering financial literacy, navigating our region's systems, and achieving greater financial security.

Additionally, the EOC member will be able to aid in the expanding operations of KSB, such as volunteer recruitment and coordination, scheduling our agency van, assisting in program reporting, and working with our Advisory Committee, as our grassroots organization continues to develop. This will be a unique opportunity to learn and grow within a developing grassroots cultural organization, serving immigrants from Burma. Member Duties : The Old First Ward Community Center (OFW) serves the population of the historic Old First Ward neighborhood and Buffalo River communities. With a focus on economic development, housing improvement, education, and social and recreational services. The Resource Center and Outreach Coordinator will manage the OFW resource center which assists the community with resume writing, job placement, home utility assistance, and computer literacy. The EOC AmeriCorps will also oversee the Buffalo River Food Pantry and conduct outreach on behalf of the OFW housing department, including off-site events and gatherings, fostering of current and creation of new relationships with local agencies, and provide financial literacy supportive services. When applicable, the EOC AmeriCorps will offer supplemental support to youth and volunteer services.
