Provide guidance and leadership to the fertilizer program in the field and the administrative offices.

JOB DUTIES:
25% - Essential

  • Inspect retail outlets to procure samples of fertilizer, lime,and landplaster to ensure compliance with fertilizer sales, storage, and record keeping regulations as well as assist with the U.S. Homeland Security Program through the S.C. fertilizer law in assigned territory by locating, permitting & monitoring companies and individuals that sell restricted fertilizer products. Prepare reports on individual samples of fertilizers,lime,and landplaster from dealers and manufacturing facilities. Check e-mail daily and create reports or documents electronically as well as document daily activities for program accountability using website reporting system.
    25% - Essential

  • Inspect production fields, including seed and turfgrass, and conditioning plants for compliance with the South Carolina Seed Certification Standards as well as the state and federal seed laws. Enters inspection reports into database and provides grower with a copy. Assist fellow inspectors when they are absent from their territory and/or workload demands.

  • Serves as a member for AOSCA and AAPFCO and assist the program manager in keeping other staff current in the new technologies and information available for the Seed Certification and Fertilizer Programs. Attends national and regional inspection trainings annually. Attends at least one AAPFCO and AOSCA annual meeting each year.
    20% - Essential

  • Updates inspection manuals, sampling protocols for both the seed certification department and fertilizer departments. Conducts and assist in field training of new techniques. Serves as a lead in field inspections. Handles management of staff when Field Supervisor is absent.
    5% - Essential

  • Administers the printing of tags, and labels for certified seed shipments. Coordinates with Administrative Coordinator on fulfillment of orders. Answers phones, and fulfills daily office duties in the event the administrative coordinator is absent.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.
