Summary:

Under the direction of the Field Manager, the landfill gas technician will have ability to specialize in a wide variety of activities where you may conduct testing, monitoring, and performing maintenance or moderate construction activities including pump maintenance, plastic pipe welding and data collection. This opportunity is structured to allow you the chance to work with an experienced group of field staff as well as become your own boss. Depending on your experience you will be required to spend a period of time training and shadowing staff familiar with this kind of work.

You will report to an onsite supervisor but be part of a regional group managed remotely.

Yor Role:

  • Operation and maintenance activities on landfill gas (LFG) and landfill liquids collection systems.

  • Perform landfill gas control and collection system construction, repairs and expansions.

  • Perform well raising, PVC extensions, HDPE pipe welding and other similar work.

  • Equipment operation such as forklifts, mini-excavators, haul trucks, etc.

  • Working with pressurized air and liquid lines.

  • Assist construction managers with the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies for projects.

  • Perform maintenance on system components to ensure or restore proper operation and compliance.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving of complex field issues.

  • Environmental data collection and interpretation and general office assistance such as filling out paperwork and submitting reports.

  • Emergency and Urgent response repairs.

Qualifications:

  • Respond to LFG and landfill liquid collection systems emergencies, if required.

  • Travel, if necessary, may require overnight stays. It is anticipated this position could require travel 10% of the time however, this estimate may change based on client needs.

  • Work effectively and efficiently as both a team and as your own boss.

  • Walk long distances, up and down steeply sloped landfills and outdoor terrain.

  • Work safely in extreme (hot and cold) weather conditions, as are endemic for the Pennsylvania area

  • Lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a non-consistent basis.

  • Pass a company paid, baseline health physical and drug screening, as required.

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical system failures.

  • Provide an aggressive and proactive approach to client needs and urgent issues that arise.

  • Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, on-call, and holidays if necessary.

  • Minimum High School Diploma and 1 year of general working experience.

  • Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER preferred, but not necessary.

  • OSHA 10-hour construction certificate a plus.

  • Ability to learn and work with complex field monitoring equipment including: flame-ionization detectors, photo-ionization detectors, explosive gas detectors, water level detectors PH/temperature/conductivity meters, and other typical environmental monitoring equipment.

  • Some heavy equipment operation, HDPE pipe fusion experience a plus.

  • Ability to learn general gas, soil, and air sampling techniques including applicable environmental and health & safety regulations and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to be familiar with operations and maintenance techniques for landfill gas and landfill fluids collection systems.

  • Ability to become familiar with landfill gas data, data processing techniques and databases.

  • Be able to understand and use Tetra Tech's field data management systems once trained

  • Basic PC use, Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Ability to build and retain mutual relationships with clients.

Due to the nature of the position being offered, this offer is contingent upon successful completion of the following:

  • A background investigation. Please note that this investigation requires your consent and cooperation.

  • You will be required to drive on a regular basis for Company business you must maintain a safe driving record as defined by Tetra Tech's Vehicle Safety program. This offer of employment is contingent upon successful evaluation of a motor vehicle (MVR) check.

  • You will be required to successfully pass a urinalysis drug screen. Tetra Tech Solid Waste East is a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol business as such you will be subject to quarterly random drug screens where allowable by law.

  • The job offered to you and its associated essential elements of work; you will be required to pass a comprehensive Medical Examination.
