Environmental Technician At The Third Golf Course- NEW Course

Job Summary:

The Environmental Technician, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent, performs chemical applications on golf course properties. The Environmental Technician is responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with Safety Data Sheets (SDS). This position is also responsible for compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent.

Qualifications

Typical Functions:

The Environmental Technician must perform fertilizer and pesticide applications on the golf course and any other areas as directed. Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment. Incumbent maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers. Must be able to keep accurate chemical inventory. Incumbent must be knowledgeable in the safe mechanical operation and calibration of the following types of equipment:

• Mechanically pressurized spray equipment.

• Hand-operated spray equipment.

• Hand-operated rotary spreaders.

• Hand-operated drop spreaders.

• Utility tractors.

Training Requirements:

Must have completed, or willing to complete, training requirements as demanded by the state and federal governments, including those required by the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.

Employment Standards:

Requires knowledge and ability of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment; mechanical aptitude; and ability to follow oral and written directions. May be required to lift 50 lbs. Requires bending and stooping.

The physical environment in which the work is performed includes indoor (partially heated/cooled), outdoor, heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, dirt, pollen, grass clippings, sun exposure, flying golf balls, poisonous and nonpoisonous animals/insects, i.e., snakes, spiders, etc. Noise from equipment, etc.

Requires complete knowledge of chemical application equipment.

Requires a valid driver's license.
