SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Environmental Director, the Environmental Specialist will support the various functions of the Environmental Department related to water quality, air quality, water resource management, land management, waste management, community outreach, and other environmental needs of the Reservation as they relate to state and federal grant commitments. The Environmental Specialist will have a strong understanding of environmental science and scientific methods to execute work related to the aforementioned functions. Additionally, the Soboba Environmental Specialist adapts complex environmental information into easily digestible educational material to enhance the Soboba Tribal communities understanding of environmental topics and natural resources. This may also include presentations in schools or organizing community events and awareness activities. The Environmental Specialist will work with tribal departments and state and federal agencies by taking part in and developing projects. This position requires on occasion flexible hours, working outdoors, occasional overnight travel, and dealing with a wide scope of environmental work.
DUTIES
Although other duties may be assigned, the essential duties include the following:
Assisting environmental staff on project completion on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance with state and federal grant programs
Assisting in the research and pursuit of new grant funding opportunities for the department with emphasis on expanding operation and growing department capacity
Operation of scientific monitoring devices for use in air and water quality monitoring
Engaging in environmental consultation with state and federal agencies
Attending in-person workshops and trainings related to environmental topics
Developing project workplans, educational media, and reports
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience:
Minimum requirement of an AS or AA with relevant work experience. A BS or BA in Environmental Science or related field is preferred.
1 to 2 years' experience in data gathering for reports and delivering oral presentations; Experience in Native American Programs and EPA programs is preferred
Experience working on environmental programs and projects related to restoration, conservation, or mitigation
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Tribes Vehicle Insurance Policy
Ability to operate a manual transmission is preferred (not required)
All applicants are required to complete the pre-screen Background Clearance and Drug Testing
40-hour HAZWOPER certificate preferred
