Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is specialized professional environmental work evaluating on-site the use of radioactive materials and x-ray machines within an assigned geographical region. The incumbent also responds to environmental radiation incidents. Duties include:

Performs field inspections of x-ray machine facilities and radioactive material users and makes determinations concerning compliance with department rules and regulations to protect the environment and the public.

Performs radiation emergency response duties, assessing hazards and taking appropriate actions to minimize radiation exposure to workers, the public, and the environment.

Performs radiation related investigations as assigned.

Serves as mentor for new staff. Maintains and enhances professional and technical skills through training and professional organizations.

Serves as radiation technical advisor when answering radiation workers and public concerns. Serves on committees when requested to further radiation research issues.

Assist the environmental manager by providing technical, scientific and professional guidance. Investigate special areas and report unusual findings to the environmental manager.

Serve on in-house workgroups as assigned. Other related duties.

Federal certification in mammography inspections (MQSA - Mammography Quality Standards Act) will be required if deemed necessary by the Field Operations Environmental Administrator.

Available on a 24-hour-a-day basis for response to radiation emergencies. Perform duties as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team.

Must be able to lift 60 pounds of equipment. Must have a valid Florida driver's license.

The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code.

Must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of the required core training modules and must attend all required core training courses designated in the training and qualification procedures.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of radiation

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent four years of professional experience in the area of chemistry, physics, health physicist (radiation related) or nuclear medicine technology (or similar work experience); or an Associates Degree and three years of professional experience in the area of chemistry, physics, health physicist (radiation related) or nuclear medicine technology (or similar work experience).

Trave Time: 50-75%
