The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Quality, Division of Water Quality Management, Water Enforcement Unit has a current vacancy for an Environmental Specialist III in the Augusta office.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is professional scientific work involving the protection of water quality. Responsibilities include:

  • Investigating, managing, and resolving compliance issues at Clean Water Act regulated facilities to correct environmental problems and settle past violations of law.

  • Drafting enforcement documents, organizing, and conducting meetings, working closely with other staff and the Attorney General's office to negotiate final settlements.

  • Responding to and investigating citizen complaints and other unlicensed pollutant discharges to the waters of the state.

  • Reviewing waste discharge licenses, conducting sanitary surveys, and supporting other Division and Bureau programs through participation in various projects and teams.

Work is performed under limited supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and/or experience in:

  • Environmental regulatory programs at the federal, state, or local level

  • Environmental law enforcement

  • Wastewater inspection, control, and regulation

  • Criminal environmental violation investigation
