Ohio EPA Environmental Specialist

What we do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What we need YOU to do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC), working at our Central Office in Columbus.

Curious? We had a feeling you would be!

As a DAPC environmental specialist, you will be coordinating and developing air pollution permitting guidance and policies for the New Source Review (NSR) program as it relates to Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT), Best Available Control Technology (BACT), and Lowest Achievable Emission Rate (LAER). You will coordinate the development and management of various workgroups formed to develop air pollution control guidance, including topics such as RACT, BACT, and LAER Clearinghouse (RBLC) rules. In relation to RBLC and other pollution control topics, you will provide technical assistance in the development and implementation of rules.

You will provide technical assistance, guidance, rule applicability assistance, and consultation to support the local air agencies, Ohio EPA district offices, government bodies, business, and citizen groups relative to RBLC. You will also provide support to the Air Quality Evaluation & Planning section in reviewing technological and economic feasibility studies submitted to the Ohio EPA as a part of state implementation plans and other regulatory requirements. As an environmental specialist, you will attend and participate in public meetings and hearings concerning any air guidance developed, assisting in conveying relevant information to the public. You will also develop policy and control strategies for the implementation of various air pollution control programs, as well as assisting in the development of special terms and conditions.

Let's drill down to the core of all this.

  • Lead the development and maintenance of permitting documents and permit related actions for RACT/BACT/ LAER.

  • Be a point-person for technical assistance questions and policy interpretations related to New Source Review (NSR) RACT/BACT/LAER from industry and citizens - provide technical assistance, participate in meetings, attend conferences, and coordinate with stakeholders from all over the Ohio as well as U.S. EPA and other state and regional agencies.

  • Spearhead internal programs to ensure compliance with RACT/BACT/LAER.
