Job Description and Duties

Are you interested in joining a dynamic team of scientists dedicated to conserving, managing, monitoring, and restoring inland trout populations? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (CDFW) Fisheries Branch is seeking a motivated individual to work as its Environmental Services Intern within the Heritage and Wild Trout Program (HWTP).

This unique position requires outstanding initiative and interpersonal skills as well as a firm background in fisheries management. Primary duties of this position will require a strong understanding of database creation and management; assisting Regional HWTP staff with coordinating creel surveys to monitor trout populations of importance; as well as being part of team tasked with developing the all new California Inland Recreational Angler Survey. This Environmental Services Intern Position reports to CDFW's new field office located in West Sacramento (Yolo County), and will be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule.

This position is posted in the following counties: Yolo and Sacramento. You only need to apply to one county.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily office based and will require the use of a computer for several hours each day. However, this position may also require the ability travel throughout the the state to perform strenuous, physically demanding, and remote back country field-based activities for extended periods of time.

Field surveys will require working in swift water including swimming, wading, boating, the ability to lift 40+ pounds, and use of a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Cold water conditions may require the use of wetsuits.
