BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for directing and supervising Housekeeping, Laundry, and Janitorial Services within the Community Operations (Maintenance) Department, including but not limited to: recruitment, programming, scheduling, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, managing Environmental Services associates, and training. Reports directly to the Community Operations Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

  • Responsible for overall department operations to ensure operations are effective and efficient including timely and effective resolution of all issues and problems; ensure effective organization through appropriate delegation of duties; establish and maintain formal systems of accountability through effective structure.

  • Direct and manage the operation of the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Janitorial divisions within the campus.

  • Supervise, monitor and report emergency call system operations and issues to management and appropriate staff.

  • Supervise, monitor, evaluate and provide direction to direct reports. Provide professional growth and development; develop and communicate goals and objectives; monitor and provide constructive feedback; conduct annual performance evaluations.

  • Assist resident members, families and associates with Housekeeping, Laundry, and Janitorial concerns and issues.

  • Supervise personnel and administer policies and procedures for Housekeeping, Laundry, and Janitorial associates.

  • Review copies of routine inspection reports and take corrective actions as needed.

  • Supervise the training of associates on proper chemical handling and storage.

  • Detect, correct or report hazardous conditions that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to resident members or others.

  • Direct and coordinate the identifications and use of sub-contractors for needed services.

  • Plan and conduct in-service training as required by community policy and state regulations.

  • Supervise the monitoring of personal laundry for cleanliness, handling and compliance.

  • Supervise the ordering of supplies and chemicals

  • Ensure sufficient inventory according to state requirements and to accomplish daily work.

  • Ensure that utility storage rooms are in order and equipment is in proper working condition.

  • Supervise the schedule for cleaning and routine maintenance of service delivery areas.

  • Develop and ensure standards and procedures for sanitation, and safety in operations.

  • Develop and monitor procedures for energy conservation and efficient and utilities.

  • Ensure operation of all electrical, plumbing, and laundry equipment. Coordinate repair or replacement as necessary.

  • Ensure buildings are maintained in compliance with all regulatory requirements and supervise/perform preventative maintenance as necessary.

  • Participate in annual budget process, manage department budget effectively, and approve expenditures. Manage department resources to insure they are used efficiently and appropriately.

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate business records including all financial transactions, collection of accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

  • Assist, guide, and lead in associate selection, review, evaluation and termination.

  • Approve all department hiring and termination decisions.

  • Conduct regular associate meetings.

  • Timely respond to staff and resident member concerns or complaints; communicate results; investigate reported incidents and complete incident reports immediately.

  • Attend community events as needed and/or directed.

  • Develop emerging leadership through professional growth and development.

  • Work successfully as a part of a team and be responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with co-workers.

  • Travel as needed to monitor, assess and help develop programs.

  • Assist staff as needed to provide assistance to residents and support to facility operations.

  • Detect, correct or report situations that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to residents or others.

  • Observe and report resident member symptoms or behavioral changes to Director of Nursing immediately.

  • Ensure that all supervised associates are heeded in proper presentation of Ventana.

  • Maintain all equipment in accordance with Ventana by Buckner policies.

  • Attend and participate in management meetings and in-service trainings as required; plan and facilitate meetings and trainings as required.

  • Accurately and timely prepare letters, memos, spreadsheets and/or other correspondence.

  • Promptly answer phones, take messages and respond to requests for information. Create accurate documentation.

  • Perform general office tasks as required.

  • Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.

POSITION EXPERIENCE and ABILITIES:

  • Requires in-depth understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge. Involves ability to define problems, draw conclusions and make decisions dealing with abstract variables. This field of knowledge is normally associated with extensive work experience in a related field. High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) required; Associate degree or certification in a related field preferred. Requires a minimum 3 years successful experience in maintenance, housekeeping/laundry, with years in supervisory/management a plus.

  • Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English. Bilingual or multi-lingual abilities a plus.

  • Requires proficient working knowledge of normal operating states of plumbing and electrical systems; heating and air conditioning systems; kitchen and laundry equipment and fixtures.

  • Requires proficient ability to adjust and operate electric-powered equipment; ability to work with hand tools.

  • Requires ability to speak clearly and make self understood effectively in face to face interactions; articulate with accuracy to speak on the phone.

  • Requires ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, communicate with people in situations with some background noise.

  • Requires knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the environmental services department of the facility and employees.

  • Requires ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings.

  • Requires ability to perform tasks with due consideration for residents in vicinity and ability to operate and work with other employees.

  • Requires proficient ability to plan, administer, and report budgets.

  • Proficient working knowledge of budgetary management and development of policies and procedures required.

  • Requires ability to provide strategic and logistical planning and facilitate meetings and trainings as required.

  • Requires ability to effectively manage personnel; requires administrative skills to include but not limited to staff selection, development, motivation, scheduling, and evaluation.

  • Requires ability to travel to various geographic locations and some overnight stays semi-annually.

  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Requires proficient ability to exhibit detail-oriented skills necessary to understand and manage a wide-range of information.

  • Proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications required.

  • Requires commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.

  • Requires ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 20 pounds continuously to move objects.

  • Requires ability to walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. Requires ability to grasp, pull, push, carry or otherwise manipulate objects.

  • Requires sufficient good health to properly discharge duties. Associates shall not be permitted to work who have infectious disease or skin lesion for the duration of the communicability.
