The Environmental Services Assistant is responsible for daily cleaning and supplying patient rooms, units, nursing stations, lounges, lavatories, public bathrooms, offices and any other areas assigned in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and in accordance with hospital objectives.
1.Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods.
a. Dust horizontal surfaces that collect dust
b. Empty wastebaskets and remove trash to soiled utility
c. Damp wipe all furniture
d. Clean and polish metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms
e. Dry and wet mop floors of rooms and offices (or vacuum if required)
f. Spot clean walls and windows
g. Polish metal surfaces
h. Replenish room supplies
i. Make beds when assigned
j. Spot clean carpets when assigned
2.Use equipment and chemicals for their intended purpose, ensuring that equipment and hospital property are not damaged.
3.Be accountable for cleanliness and neat appearance of assigned area that the schedule is complete, and all instructions from supervisors are followed, so that areas will pass inspection of supervisors or administrative personnel.
Assist in cleaning of emergency spills observed or upon request.
Maintain assigned equipment for cleanliness and have repairs made when needed.
Observe and report the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
In case of fire or other internal disaster proceed in accordance with assigned duties.
Report to EVS assigned areas in case of disaster.
Perform any other tasks, which may be assigned, within reason.
Participate in hospital Disaster Drill Plan.
4.Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient/resident population and demonstrates knowledge of specific issues directly related to age of patient/resident population.
1.Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions when necessary.
2.Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
3.Must function independently, be flexible and have the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Not to exceed every-other weekend; department specific.
Ability to understand written and verbal English sufficiently to perform job requirements.
Mechanical aptitude is desirable.
High School/GED preferred.
1.New employees required to pass employee physical.
2.Standing, pushing, pulling, and constant movement required.
3.Lifting up to 20 pounds required.
1.Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to twenty pounds required.
2.Ability to stand for up to 100% of the shift required.
