Environmental Scientist 1 - Underfill

The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This recruitment is for an Environmental Scientist 1 underfilling the Environmental Scientist 3 within the Bureau of Air Quality Planning, located in the Carson City office. The position is a field site operator in the Ambient Air Monitoring Branch.

Our branch operates a network of ambient air monitoring stations throughout Nevada to measure concentrations of pollutants considered harmful to the public and environment. This data is used to determine EPA compliance and provide real-time air quality information to the public. The ES 3 responsibilities include regular site visits to operate and maintain ambient air monitoring equipment; maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment in the air monitoring lab; evaluating new and existing monitoring sites; public outreach to communicate how air quality impacts people's lives; preparation of technical documents and reports; analyzing air pollution trends or events and the projected impacts on federal, state, and local regulations; and interacting with the general public, federal agencies, and members of the regulated community.

Experience diagnosing and repairing air monitoring instruments or other electronic equipment is preferred. This position requires 25 - 50% travel.
