This position manages, oversees and coordinates facility inspections, compliance and enforcement activities and implements the Title V Renewable Operating Permit (ROP) program for facilities within the City of Detroit and Wayne County. This position also responds to complaints and pollution emergencies received in the district.

Environmental Quality Analyst 12

This Senior Environmental Quality Analyst position is responsible for managing challenging and controversial assignments at large and multi-faceted facilities that are highly complex and technical in nature, and involve potential air emissions of toxic or hazardous chemicals. This position works with a high degree of independence to evaluate technical industrial processes and air pollution control equipment, as they relate to permitting and compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Compliance activities routinely require work under intense public scrutiny and require defending environmental air quality regulations and best practices. This position also implements the Title V Renewable Operating Permit (ROP) Program for complex and controversial sites, and serves as a resource for controversial complaints received in the district. This position may be responsible for monitoring such sites as chrome platers, crushers and aggregate plants, food processing facilities, and scrapyards. These activities are conducted with minimal supervisory oversight.

Environmental Quality Analyst 12 Position Description

There are three vacancies for this posting.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies and sustainability, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, crop and soil science, ecology, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies and sustainability, forest management, geology, meteorology, microbiology, physical geography, physics, remote sensing, resource development, resource management, toxicology, or zoology.

Experience

Environmental Quality Analyst 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Environmental Quality Analyst 10

One year of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 9.

Environmental Quality Analyst P11

Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 10.

Environmental Quality Analyst 12

Three years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst P11.
