What you will be doing:
Do you enjoy working in a position that directly impacts the safety and health of your fellow Alaskans? Do you want to be a part of a team of dedicated professionals whose mission is to protect water quality? If so, this job may be for you.
The DEC Division of Water is looking to hire a qualified individual to address the division's need for continuity in assessing adverse impacts from federal rule making to all sections, assisting the Division Director and sectional Program Managers to identify and address program modifications, policies, and procedures emphasizing federal regulatory changes which adversely impact Alaskans.
Our organization, mission, and culture:
At DEC, our mission is conserving, improving, and protecting Alaska's natural resources and environment to enhance the health, safety, economic, and social well-being of Alaskans.
Our core values are customer service, accountability, integrity, collaboration, and objectivity.
The Division of Water's mission is to protect and improve Alaska's water quality and assist communities in improving sanitation conditions.
This position will play a critical role to providing regulatory certainty and predictability by monitoring and orchestrating comment on proposed federal rule making which could impact effective management of waters of the state. Additionally, the position will evaluate decisions of federal agencies for activities within Alaska and evaluate if these decisions are consistent with federal and state regulation and applicable case law.
The benefits of joining our team:
There are many benefits to joining the Division of Water team including a positive work atmosphere, flexible work schedule, telework options for those who qualify, and dedicated professional staff. Perhaps the greatest benefits are the ability to use your current skills while developing new ones.

We value each member of the Division of Water and work collaboratively to implement rational, defensible decision making in protecting public health and the environment. Advice on proposed rule making and ongoing federal actions will have direct impact on over 4,000 discharge authorizations under the Clean Water Act in Alaska. Close coordination with counterparts in Department of Law, Department of Natural Resources, State Legislation, the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Army Corps of Engineers will be essential to success in this position.
The working environment you can expect:

There will also be telework options available to those that qualify. The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative with regular interaction with colleagues in the program, other programs within DEC, and with the general public. This position works with dedicated staff to develop, issue and manage wastewater discharge permits statewide.

If the application does not support minimum qualifications, the applicant may not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment. A resume will not be used to determine that minimum qualifications have been met for the position in which you are applying.
If you are currently or previously been appointed to a flexibly staffed position, please ensure your work experience within a flexibly staffed position indicates the actual dates employed at each level. Ensure your time and any subsequent flex promotion(s) are documented as a separate position. This is required as there are minimum qualifications that require experience at a particular level in which the lower level may not be considered. If this information is not accurately reflected in your application this may cause the processing of your application for consideration to be delayed.
NOTE: Attaching a resume or curriculum vitae is not an alternative to filling out the application in its entirety. Noting "see resume or CV" or any similar response on any portion of your application may lead to a determination your application is incomplete and removal from consideration for this job posting.
