Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible professional position housed at the Department of Health, Public Health Research Section. This position serves as the project manager of the Overdose to Action Program (FL-OD2A), overseeing the federal grant activities of the FL-OD2A. This program and activities are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This position involves utilizing professional skills and expertise in management principles and practices to ensure coordination and efficiency among administrative, program and operational units. Grant management skills will be required to write grant narratives, technical reports, and work with budget and procurement staff to ensure effective spending of grant funds and the creation of annual operating budget narratives.

Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed.

Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training. Writing contractor scopes of work, ensuring accurate and timely data submissions per grant requirements and maintaining the other responsibilities of the OD2A grant.

Participate in workgroups and committees to support collaboration between various public health programs, as well as stakeholders as requested by the Director of Public Health Research or Principal Investigator of the grant. Serves on CDC and other national workgroups and committees as required by the department. Conduct and attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training programs as needed or requested by the Director of Public Health Research.

Build partnerships and work closely with related programs from other Bureaus and Divisions within the Department, other agencies, county health departments and externally with academic institutions, non-profit organizations, universities, and other potential partners in Florida and nationally etc. Represent the Florida Department of Health at local, state, and national conferences and meetings.

Serve on workgroups and committees related to health issues of concern to the FL-OD2A program. Collaborate with the Department's Office of Communications staff on materials for dissemination including programmatic education and outreach materials. Facilitate research to accumulate information and resources that will assist in outreach efforts.

Maintain accurate records of correspondence, meetings, and program activities as directed by the department. Work with appropriate staff and partners to implement, coordinate evaluation and report on project activities to the CDC within the given deadlines as directed. Provides expertise and assistance to ensure outlined program goals and objectives are met or exceeded.

Provide training and technical assistance to program staff as needed to implement project strategies and ensure maximum participation in completion of project strategies and goals as directed.

Performs other duties and assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Capacity to effectively prioritize work to meet project deadlines.

  • Capacity for meeting grant reporting deadlines

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate assignments and responsibilities clearly and professionally.

  • Ability to discuss technical issues and make sound decisions.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with various staff members and program partners.

  • Ability to draft communications for program-wide distribution.

  • Experience in providing training and programmatic assistance to public health staff. Qualifications:

Minimum

  • 2+ years a supervisor experience and 2+ years grants management experience

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
