SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

This role reports directly to the Plant Manager. Peers include other Department Managers. Subordinates include three salaried exempt employees.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Responsible for implementing, coordinating, managing, and maintaining all Calvert City plant programs and activities within the Environmental Department to ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations and Corporate standards. Participates in other non-environmental plant activities as needed to improve performance in areas of safety, environmental, reliability, cost control, capital deployment, etc.

Manages annual department budget of $.75M. Participates in other non-environmental plant activities as needed to improve performance in areas of safety, environmental, reliability, cost control, capital deployment, etc.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the plant provides a safe work environment for our employees and surrounding communities

  • Directs compliance with Title V, KPDES, and RCRA Part B permits and applicable environmental regulations

  • Ensures all annual, semi-annual, and quarterly reporting (regulatory and corporate) is submitted in a timely manner

  • Implements, supports and sustains site management system activities in accordance with the requirements of the Arkema Integrated Management System (AIMS) which includes standards from ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and RCMS. Serve as management sponsor for ISO 14001 and RCMS certifications.

  • Manages department employees to maintain competence and cohesiveness. Develops technical professionals through annual PDP plans and training protocols that maintain & expand levels of expertise. Increases environmental awareness of plant personnel.

  • Evaluates and implements opportunities to improve CSR related standing of the site, especially relating to emission reduction. Provide regular updates to the site and corporate personnel regarding CSR metrics

  • Leads waste minimization efforts. Acts as plant contact for remediation activities.

  • Participates on major capital project teams providing advice on environmental compliance and CSR considerations.

  • Act as a technical resource for process areas to ensure environmental permitting and regulatory requirements are understood and met. Keeps current with constantly changing laws and regulations and provides guidance to the plant in the interpretation of the requirements and develops programs to meet the regulations. Direct the preparation and submittal of permit applications and modification packages to State and Federal agencies as required.

  • Serve as the IMPACT Site Administrator for environmental entries. Serve as the site OPS Administrator.

    Coordinate and ensure accurate submittal of data for REED and EFPI reporting. Evaluate and implement improved technology/software related to site compliance and environmental management

  • Represent the site at community outreach events including Community Advisory Team, public meetings, Good Neighbor Night, etc.

  • Complete other environmental-related projects and participate in topic-focused corporate wide teams as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE

This role requires a minimum of a B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or other related technical field plus experience in the day-to-day management of environmental compliance in a plant environment. At least 5 years of direct Title V air permit management experience (10+ years preferred). Good interpersonal communication, technical writing, and public speaking skills are crucial. The ability to read and develop a good understanding of environmental regulations is required.
