General purpose of the job

The Environmental Manager is responsible for leadership, team development and all aspects of environmental permitting, compliance, audits, inspections, and regulations, related to stormwater management, air emissions and reclamation within the cement line of business. Will develop and manage policies, processes, projects, and activities related to compliance with environmental regulations. Responsible for conducting and overseeing environmental audits and environmental awareness training programs. Ensure clear, tactful, concise communication flows upwards and downwards throughout the organization and works closely with Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality to find solutions that are both practical and sustainable. Supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adhering to all company policies and federal / state regulations.

Role and responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of an organization's environmental compliance, including development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

  • Participate in conducting inspections, audits, and investigations; report environmental incidents, compiling findings, and recommendations for corrective action through root cause analysis findings.

  • Collect environmental samples and field measurements from the field operating facilities.

  • Stay current in research on new technology relevant to environmental issues, such as alternative energy sources or pollution prevention methods.

  • Effectively communicate to convey ideas and information to others such as teammates, contractors, and suppliers.

  • Utilize problem solving skills to develop solutions that help their organizations meet environmental regulations.

  • Evaluate environmental issues and/or concerns, raise awareness, and lead resolution through collaboration of environmental strategies.

  • Responsible for data entry of environmental reporting metrics for required permitting and key reporting compliance; analyze environmental monitoring data and prepare compliance reports.

  • Utilize Environmental Management System (EMS), maintain dashboard and calendar of compliance tasks.

  • Coordination and training of teammates in the identification, development and implementation of environmental goals, policies, and procedures, which have a positive impact and add value to the organization.

  • Attend public hearings, conferences and events on environmental issues as requested by the Company.

  • Champion for organization-wide environmental sustainability goals and track ESG data as required.

  • Unfailing commitment to follow all safety procedures, perform risk assessments prior to commencing unfamiliar tasks, and seek to identify and implement proactive safety and environmental improvements.

  • Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.

Ability Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or closely related field; or 5+ years demonstrated progressive experience in environmental management roles (cement experience strongly preferred). Understanding of environmental sampling and data interpretation and regulatory environmental compliance requirements. Experience with CAA, Title V permitting, CWA / NPDES, CERCLA / SARA, RCRA, EPCRA Tier II - CRTK, TRI, etc.

  • Ability and commitment to comply with all applicable federal, state, industry regulations and standards.

  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members and external agencies.

  • Knowledge of auditing and inspection expectations with environmental regulators / agencies such as EPA, DEQ, County Health Department, etc.

  • High level of integrity and commitment to compliance, record keeping and overall team results.

  • Knowledge of engineering calculations for permitting, reporting, compliance and to support project goals.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with accurate data entry skills.

  • Due to the nature of this position, it is essential that the teammate be available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled, including the ability to travel 10% with or without notice.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.

Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) lbs. independently and tolerate moderate noise levels.

Annual Salary Range From 96,800.00 to 145,200.00
