General Description

The Environmental Manager oversees the environmental performance of the Company within a specific area while also managing personnel and or specific programs within the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Key Duties

Including but not limited to-

  • Support operational teams. Ensure personnel understand potential impacts associated with their work and the necessary actions to maintain compliance with regulations, permits, plans and Company procedures

  • Provide assistance with compliance activities including permitting, plans, recordkeeping, reporting and managing non compliance

  • Assist with the development and implementation of EMS policies, procedures, and additional resources to improve performance, mitigate risk and meet the needs of the Company

  • Manage personnel and programs within the EMS

  • Serves as point of contact with federal, state, and local environmental regulatory agencies

  • Communicate to Division and/or Area Managers, and Director of Environmental on environmental performance and pertinent information

  • Responsible for staying informed of environmental regulation changes

  • Support Company due diligence efforts associated with land use, acquisitions and divestments

  • Periodic travel may be required

  • Represent the Company on area industry association environmental committees

  • Carry out job duties in a professional manner

  • And other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.   • A minimum of four (4) years of experience managing employees and working in environmental management is required

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience permitting, writing and implementing plans, performing due diligence, and managing compliance for construction materials manufacturing and heavy civil construction industries

  • Knowledgable in sustainability and environmental compliance trends and best practices impacting the industry.

  • Experience permitting, writing and implementing plans, performing due diligence, and managing compliance for construction materials manufacturing and heavy civil construction industries preferred

  • Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Environmental, or Geo Sciences preferred, qualifing work experience maybe substituted for college degree

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

  • Highly effective communicator

  • Maintains a positive attitude

  • Excels in teamwork and building relationships

  • Acts with integrity, transparency, and accountability

  • Ability to create a schedule and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Demonstrates the capacity to train others proficiently, is coachable, can set expectations, and follow up on a consistent basis

Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an Environmental Manager to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.

  • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 90 pounds with assistance.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Environmental Manager encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).

  • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.
