Environmental Health Specialist 3

The Position

Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Industry is recruiting for an Environmental Health Specialist 3, underfilling a Public Health Rating & Survey Officer.

This position will be located in their Sparks, Nevada office. The incumbent is responsible for conducting routine inspections and investigations of dairy and meat facilities in the Northern area of the State. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating facilities for compliance with standards, state and federal statutes and regulations through the inspection process utilizing record review, interviews, and observations.

The incumbent will complete all required inspection activity documents in accordance with regulations, statutes, policies and procedures, as applicable. The incumbent will evaluate milk haulers and samplers to the standards set forth in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. The incumbent will collect dairy, water, and single service samples.

The incumbent will serve as a resource for and provide information and education to industry and Department of Agriculture personnel. The incumbent will perform other related work as assigned.
