Working with the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, assist in monitoring and coordinating safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe working environment for team members and customers. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop and maintain Hazardous Material Inventory Statements (HMIS), EHS compliance assessments, and any other related materials required by local, state and federal regulatory agencies.

Maintain regulatory calendar to ensure all required environmental reports (Annual Waste Tier II, Recycling Reports) and filings are submitted in a timely manner.

Provide monthly detailed activity reports summarizing safety and environmental metrics and activities to the Director of Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance.

Maintain the Risk Management safety & environmental regulatory database to track regulatory activities throughout the company.

Ensure all OSHA, EPA or other regulatory agency inspection responses are delivered prior to deadlines.

Coordinate waste stream collections from both DC and store locations (used oil, hazardous waste, e-Waste, Retail Waste Bucket Program, etc).

Monitor safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure they comply with all current environmental and safety regulations.

Oversee the Hazard Communication/Global Harmonized System Program. Assist both internal and external customers with SDS requests and questions.

Provide guidance to both internal and external customers with MSDS/SDS requests.

Review the EHS compliance programs and provide input for data improvement.

Assist stores and DC operations with environmental questions and programs (refrigerant sales, waste disposal, etc.)

Increase field awareness of safety/environmental issues through internal publications.

Monitor the company-wide hazardous waste process and implement process improvement plans.

Oversee monthly waste pick up at 30 distribution centers and submit required manifest reporting to state agencies.

Review and improve waste consolidation processes at our distribution centers.

Coordinate and track wastes from paint mix stores and the Retail Waste Bucket Program.

Implement improvements to reduce wastes and effectively control waste disposal costs.

Research environmental, health and safety issues and keep management informed of changes in regulations that may affect our operations.

Track environmental exposures resulting from accident/loss, such as vehicle accident, floods, fires, spills, etc.

SKILLS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES

Required:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong computer skills with office software

Ability to work with diverse groups and able to work independently on projects

Excellent time management skills

Self-motivated and willing to achieve corporate and departmental objectives

Desired:

Working knowledge of federal environmental (EPA), health and safety (OSHA), and hazardous material transportation (DOT) regulations

Experience working with regulatory authorities and knowledge of regulatory inspections and follow up documentation

Degree in environmental management, safety management or related field.

Prior experience coordinating environmental programs or interacting with regulatory agencies
