Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Job Description:

  • The EHS Manager leads the University's Indianapolis EHS office and serves as liaison with Purdue's West Lafayette subject matter experts, Indiana University's EHS management and staff, and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. The EHS Manager directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of campus EHS programs and safety management systems, including laboratory safety, hazardous materials management, and occupational safety. You will advise University personnel regarding the development and implementation of regulatory strategy, potential areas of regulatory concern, and new government/regulatory developments. You will also consult with administration, managers, department heads, employees, and the campus community to identify problems and develop solutions and improvements to create and maintain quality EHS standards and a safe campus environment.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety Engineering, Hazardous Materials Management, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related field preferred

  • Six (6) years of experience in a comprehensive occupational safety program is required

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Preferred:

  • Experience in a university or research environment

  • Certification in a nationally recognized EHS organization (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.)

  • Experience using leading indicators and data to identify issues, tell the employee safety story, and measure performance

Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of:

  • OSHA, EPA standards, federal, state and local regulations

  • worker's compensation benefits is desired

  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain, effective working relationships, mutual trust and respect with others

  • Must have high ethical and professional behavior standards

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required

  • A strong commitment to customer service and Administrative Operations goals is essential

  • Ability to:

  • interpret laws and policies is required

  • make data-driven decisions The ability to achieve consensus and a record of enhancing the safety culture is necessary

  • work 2nd and 3rd shift at times is necessary

  • Subject to 24 hr. call-back
