JOB SUMMARY

To provide effective technical leadership to promote a safe and healthful atmosphere within the workplace and to comply with all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates hazards and addresses within the facility for safety, health and environmental risks.

  • Develops health and safety procedures and programs for all departments and monitors safety compliance to reduce risks.

  • Maintains contingency plans, including fire prevention, and procedures for controlling hazardous spills in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements.

  • Develops inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules.

  • Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA guidelines.

  • Monitors professional literature and attends seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements.

  • Works closely with in-house medical staff.

  • Works closely with EHS team of safety coordinators, lead technician and specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related subject.

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in EHS.

  • Experience working with a team.

  • Significant experience with Title V of the Clean Air Act.

  • Significant experience with RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act).

  • Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies.

  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication.

  • Basic computer skills with both Microsoft Office and database applications.

  • Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred, or ability to obtain CSP credentials.

  • Previous EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Previous leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience.

This position also requires community policing that involves three key components: developing community partnerships, engaging in problem solving, and implementing community policing activities. MAJOR DUTIES * Patrols the campus to preserve safety and security. * Interviews witnesses and suspects. * Enforces traffic and parking violations. * Checks AEDs and fire extinguishers. * Arrests person(s) suspected of crimes. * Testifies in court as needed. * Conducts building inspections for the safety of the campus. * Provides jump-offs as requested. * Provides directions and information to visitors. * Answers calls and complaints involving fire, traffic, accidents, robberies, and other issues; provides necessary response. * Ensures students abide by the student code of conduct. * Investigates crimes against person(s) and property. * Searches for and evaluates evidence. * Reviews security camera footage for evidence. * Performs related duties as assigned. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK * The work consists of varied law enforcement duties. Dangerous situations and sudden changes contribute to the complexity of the position. * The purpose of this position is to enforce laws and provide security. Success in this position helps ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position requires community policing with faculty, staff, students and visitors. CONTACTS * Contacts are typically with co-workers, faculty, staff, plant operations, visitors, and students. * Contacts are typically to give or exchange information; to provide services; and to resolve problems. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT * The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell. * The work is typically performed in a very noisy place, outdoors, and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.
