Zen-Noh Grain Corporation (ZGC) was formed in 1979 to accomplish the goal of establishing a safe and stable supply of U.S. corn, milo, soybeans, and other U.S. food supplies. ZGC is a U.S. subsidiary of ZEN-NOH, the largest agricultural cooperative association in Japan. We operate a grain and oilseed export terminal in Convent, Louisiana, which is the highest-handle grain export terminal in the U.S. In recent years, we have expanded our grain origination and export footprint with joint ventures in Brazil, Canada and Hong Kong. In addition to grain trading, we operate a forage processing and export business headquartered in Washington.

This job is primarily responsible for coordinating all aspects of environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance within all business units and facilities as assigned. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, communicating with various internal management and environmental consultants to submit environmental permit applications, recordkeeping forms, and reports for all applicable sites across all business units. Additionally, this role will oversee facility security.

In this job, you will:

  • Manage and integrate EHS regulatory requirements and best management practices into operations.

  • Work with and assist internal audit as requested/necessary, and may serve as the point person for EHS audit needs.

  • Prepare summaries of relevant permits and compliance requirements for use by facility management.

  • Manage environmental compliance tasks and develop environmental work orders for assigned facilities.

  • Act as a resource for locations by training and coaching facility personnel, communicating with consultants and compliance enforcement agencies, and assist with managing spills and catastrophic events.

  • Report compliance issues to appropriate party and assist with developing timely solutions.

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of final QA/QC for all team documents and deliverables.

  • Coordinate with USACE for permitting and dredging.

  • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Stay current on industry best practices, regulations, and emerging EHS issues related to the grain industry.

  • Work collaboratively with other departments (Operations, Maintenance, Quality Assurance) to integrate EHS considerations into daily operations.

  • As necessary and appropriate, act as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies, professional and industry organizations as well as corporate environmental and safety personnel.

  • Provide EHS training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and visitors on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and regulatory updates.

  • Manage coordinate and administer toxicology screenings.

  • Manage all components of facility security to include Access Controls, Fire Detention and Suppression Systems, and Emergency-Response Planning.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS documentation, including safety data sheets (SDS), permits, and incident reports.

  • May coordinate with pest control vendors, duty will vary depending on area(s) supported.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Here's what you'll need to be considered:

Education

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in scientific field of study (i.e. Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Zoology, Engineering) or related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.

Experience

Required

  • 5 years' experience in a fast-paced project and compliance environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with industry specific software.

Preferred

  • Experience working with the Coast Guard, serving as a security officer over facilities.

Certification

Preferred

  • Method 9 Certification, or ability to obtain Method 9 Certification within 6 months of start date.

Preferred

  • CSP from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working Knowledge and experience with 29 CFR 1910.119 Process Safety Management, Management of Change and NFPA 652.

  • Basic knowledge of applicable grail, marine, and bulk storage industry, and industry trends as it pertains to applicable state regulations and 40 CFR.

  • Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.

  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills, with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.

  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and with limited technical supervision.

  • Ability to remain on-call.

  • Ability to be active in professional groups.

Physical Demands & Requirements

The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop and kneel, occasionally.

Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.

Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions

The physical environment is dependent on the activities of the workday; can be inside where there are limited extremes to heat and/or cold and/or outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Travel required, up to 50%.
