Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Environmental Geologist with 2 to 8 years of experience in the environmental consulting field. The ideal candidate is a smart and motivated team player who is looking to learn new skills and grow their career as a geologist.

Key Responsibilities

You would be a member of a team providing environmental consulting services ranging from site investigations to remediation projects. The key responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Set up field projects, including permitting, hiring subcontractors, coordinating with staff, lab, and subcontractors, and obtaining necessary equipment

  • Perform field work, including management of subcontractors, logging soil borings, guiding groundwater monitoring well installations, and collecting soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment samples, as well as documenting field activities

  • Field activities may also include oversight of remediation subcontractors during remediation activities, such as pilot studies and routine operations and maintenance

  • Ensure projects are performed safely

  • Interpret data and test results and conduct geologic analysis, including preparation of cross sections, isoconcentration maps, poteniometric surface maps, and groundwater gradient calculations

  • Draft portions of or entire reports

  • Prepare scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates

  • Assist the Project Manager and team in ensuring effective client and regulatory agency communication and relations

  • Technical review and mentoring of junior compliance staff

  • Follow company safety standards, site safety standards and provides all required permitting

  • Willing to travel to project sites throughout California and the West Coast; position may require up to 50% of time in the field, but frequency and length of field work varies significantly

Skills / Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, environmental science, or related field

  • Licensed Professional Geologist or Geologist in Training in the State of California

  • 3 to 8 years environmental experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification

  • Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks

  • Attention to detail

  • Willingness to occasionally work more than 8 hours per day when necessary for project success

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations

  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

  • Must have valid, current Driver's License (CA preferred) and must have access to a vehicle for field work purposes


  • MS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology or Environmental Science or other related technical field

  • Familiarity with quantitative hydrogeology, numerical modeling, database applications, and/or GIS applications

Physical Demands

  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck

  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment

  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function

  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required

  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

VIEW JOBS 10/17/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-15T00:00 JOB SUMMARY Conducts on-site Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and/or Phase II subsurface investigations to identify recognized environmental conditions and other conditions of environmental concern for the project and related off-site properties in accordance with ASTM and client specific standards as an Environmental Professional or Complete NEPA & Section 106 related research, submissions and outreach related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc. Characteristics of responsible projects: Complexity: Medium Risk: Medium Type of Assets: Multiple tenant commercial retail, standard telecom installations ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Completes standard Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and/or Phase II subsurface investigations to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and other conditions of environmental concerns as outlined in the scope of work or Complete standard NEPA & Section 106 related research, submissions and outreach related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc. Reviews previous assessment reports, historical and regulatory records for the property and for the surrounding area and reports data in accordance with ASTM criteria and client's scope of work. Conducts interviews with property owners, occupants, key site personnel and local government officials to obtain information concerning the environmental conditions related to the property and adjacent properties. Performs screenings for the presence of asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, lead in drinking water and subsurface contamination. Screenings may include collection of samples. Writes reports which convey the environmental assessment and provide exhibits and photos which illustrate or clarify information presented in the body of the report. Coordinates municipal and private utility clearance, prior to Phase II activities, obtains site access and coordinates with drillers and laboratories. Completes online and field research related to historic preservation, endangered species, wetlands, floodplains, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.
