As our Senior Environmental Engineer, you will play a crucial role leading environmental permitting, compliance, and monitoring efforts at the Hecla Greens Creek Mine. Duties will include ensuring environmental compliance, supervising a small water/wastewater operations team, reporting to agencies, helping implement environmental management systems, providing training, and coordinating with the surface, mill, and underground mine departments. Your contributions will help ensure the ongoing success of Greens Creek's ability to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here is what you can expect in this role:
You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
Manage all aspects of environmental programs and be familiar with all major disciplines, including air, water, solid waste, etc. Interpret environmental regulations, determine impact to facility, and implement necessary compliance programs.
Develop, implement, and manage environmental strategies, plans and procedures. Interact with various local, State and Federal Environmental agencies. Prepare appropriate internal and external reports and timely submit utilizing proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, as well as various internal computerized systems.
Interpret and analyze water, wastewater, and stormwater data across the site.
Supervise a small team of water/wastewater treatment plant operators. Provide Water Treatment Plant expertise.
Establish strong working relationships with operations and maintenance staff across the site to facilitate efficient and timely projects.
Prepare and present technical reports.
You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.
