We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Environmental Engineer with our Chemical Plant located in Hahnville, LA.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Coordinate efforts to ensure the Plant is meeting requirements specified in regulatory permits and in accordance with 40 CFR Part 60, Part 68, Part 72, and Part 75.

  • Coordinate and track the completion of routine data collection, with timely submittal of required periodic environmental reports to outside agencies and corporate HESS systems.

  • Input and track all environmental impact incidents through the Corporate HESS software.

  • Determine the operating characteristics of existing environmental equipment; assisting with plant environmental tests, evaluating results, and recommending changes to ensure environmental compliance.

  • Audit areas of performance in plant environmental performance, systems, record keeping, procedures, inspections, reporting, and communicate program compliance status.

  • Participation in plant environmental audits and inspections from OxyChem Corporate and regulatory personnel.

  • Identify and keep plant management abreast of improvements in environmental technology, equipment monitors, practices, and procedures that may impact facility operations.

  • Provide ongoing environmental engineering and compliance assistance to operations and maintenance to help identify risks and improve safeguards.

  • Coordinate environmental training program including delivery of in-person orientation training for newly hired OxyChem personnel as needed.

  • Support OxyChem Process Safety Management and Responsible Care programs including Management of Change, Process Hazards Reviews, and Risk Management Planning

  • Maintain safety and environmental awareness consistent with plant and corporate standards by actively participating in safety meetings, safety inspections, new hire and recurring training, hazards review, and various other HESS programs.

  • Participate as a guest environmental auditor at other OxyChem facilities periodically.

  • Support the plant in pollution prevention and energy efficiency projects.

  • Support EEO and Affirmative Action issues and opportunities in accordance with Corporate Policy.

  • Actively demonstrate commitment to, and promote, Oxy's core values and cultural traits.

  • Complete any additional responsibilities assigned by Manager.

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or environmental science with a minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.

  • Physical requirements - Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

  • Cogeneration and/or power plant regulatory experience a plus.
