The mission of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is to protect and perserve South Dakota's agriculture, environment, and natural resources through effective regulatory services, natural resource conservation, and financial and technical assistance. What you will do:
As a member of the Tanks team, you will be responsible for protecting human health and the environment by implementing state and federal regulations for storage tank facilities. This position will perform tank inspections, review plans and specifications for aboveground and underground storage tank systems, and direct release assessment and remediation.
Based on the applicant's knowledge, skills, abilities, and work experience, this position may be hired as Engineer I or an Engineer II position at the appropriate salary for the engineering level hired. The total compensation of Hourly Wage plus State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for an entry level Environmental Engineer is approximately $86,256.00 annually.
This position requires a valid driver's license, frequent travel, and occasional overnight travel. Field work can occur in a wide range of weather conditions and may occasionally require the ability to lift of up to 50 pounds. Office work will be conducted in a routine office setting. Normal work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, fieldwork may result in flexing the work schedule. This position will be trained in the Incident Command System and will be available to work in South Dakota's Emergency Operations Center during times when the Governor declares an emergency.
Licenses and Certifications:
DANR values professional licensure. Preference will be given to candidates that have successfully passed the Engineer-In-Training/Fundamentals of Engineering exam or have the ability to obtain a license. We can provide training and experience that will allow you to pursue your Professional Engineering license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Only applicants that possess a bachelor's or master's degree in environmental, geological, civil, mechanical, or related engineering field will be considered. Communicating and coordinating with other engineers and scientists, other agencies, and the public is required; therefore, good communication skills are essential.
