Environmental Engineer Co-Op/Intern
An Environmental Engineer Co-Op/Intern at Mosaic will be assigned routine duties and projects, which are essential to ongoing operations and continued improvements of environmental aspects of our operations.
What will you do?
Day to day work assignments could include responsibility for tracking stack test results and plant operating conditions, tracking and reviewing fresh water consumption and distribution, comparing and evaluating surface and ground water quality data. Projects and duties will focus on computer applications using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Water-related assignments include preparing graphs to evaluate ground water quality trends, collecting water samples to evaluate storm water and industrial wastewater quality to identify contaminant sources, assisting in determining facility or water quality improvements, monitoring freshwater and wastewater flows, reviewing Best Management Practices manual sections related to storm and wastewater
Air-related assignments include conducting routine evaluations of evacuation system effectiveness, assisting in design of evacuation system for new or modified sources, preparing process flow diagrams detailing pollution sources, evacuation systems and control equipment
Waste management assignments will include conducting waste profiles, investigations of waste generating activities, evaluating alternative raw materials or processes, evaluating waste handling procedures to determine recycle opportunities, involvement in waste handling/storage/disposal activities and employee training
Administrative type assignments may include assisting in management and organization of permit files and environmental compliance records, assisting in environmental training programs
Communicate with various levels of personnel throughout the organization, including management, plant operators, engineers (of various disciplines), lab personnel, and contractors.
Participation in department meetings and meetings specific to the project assignment
Adhering to Mosaic's mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies
What do you need for this role?
Sophomore level or higher pursuing a bachelor's degree in Environmental; prefer Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science and Policy
2.75 GPA or higher
Ability to function in an industrial chemical and mining environment
1-2 years' of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is required
Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and implement learned process, procedures or software
Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills, including presentation skills
Ability to effectively work with employees at all levels within the organization and external customers, suppliers and vendors
Maintain a clean work environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
