By joining the Division of Mine Permits as an Environmental Engineer Consultant in the Director's Office, you will have the opportunity to provide a vital link between the Field Enforcement staff, Management, Industry officials and the public by providing technical assistance pertaining to complex engineering problems and serving as a liaison to the Commissioner, the Division of Abandoned Mine Lands and field services.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer Consultant position will complete tasks such as:

  • Review technical and regulatory literature to develop engineering guidelines

  • Provide technical assistance pertaining to complex engineering problems

  • Coordinate the engineering review of unique permit applications

  • Develop engineering guidelines

  • Participate in the development of regulatory and legislative proposals

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. http://kyboels.ky.gov/. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Travel throughout the state may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
