Environmental Compliance Technician / Inspector

The Water Reclamation Division is responsible for the administration and treatment functions of the wastewater system and the production of reclaimed water at three water reclamation facilities that collectively treat approximately 50 million gallons per day.

The Water Reclamation Division is seeking an organized, self-motivated, team player to fill the position of an "Environmental Compliance Technician/Inspector". This is a semi-skilled technical position is responsible for inspection and sampling of grease traps, operation of manual and automated sampling equipment, and review of customer and contract/franchise hauler operations for compliance with County codes and ordinances. The ideal candidate will be proficient in communicating with customers, exhibit a positive attitude, work independently to meet deadlines and complete assignments.

Job Description

An employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for inspection of assigned customers and haulers and proper collection of several composite samples in a given daily assignment and the accompanying paperwork. Duties include maintaining good public relations, operating automated sampling equipment and maintaining records of sufficient detail to allow for submission of them as evidence in enforcement actions. Work is performed under the general supervision of and assigned supervisor who evaluates performance based on accuracy and compliance with established procedures.

Representative Duties/Assignments

• Set-up automated sampling equipment at selected sites.

• Collecting grab and composite samples from commercial and industrial facilities.

• Inspecting commercial and industrial facilities and grease traps and records inspection findings on computer database daily.

• Maintains accurate, legible records of samples and inspections, including chain-of-custody logs and other daily paperwork.

• Removing and replacing sanitary sewer manhole covers to conduct inspection and sampling.

• Preparing records of findings for supervisor or applicable boards concerning enforcement actions.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Knowledge of basic chemistry, biology and math is preferred.

Must possess a valid Florida Operator's License.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 110 -- From $ 19.13 to $25.24
