Support cement plants and management in maintaining environmental compliance at each operating unit including troubleshooting in collaboration with technical and plant operations staff. Offer strategic advice on environmental-related matters in an effort to obtain a positive outcome for Lehigh Hanson.

Interpret environmental regulations, including RCRA, and advise cement plants on compliance. Responsible for drafting permit applications and negotiating permit conditions for large capital projects.

Work with environmental regulators as needed when situations warrant such interaction. Responsible for assembling and reviewing environmental key performance indicators for the cement business line.

  • Monitor plant environmental compliance performance and initiate corrective/improvement actions as required.

  • Perform plant environmental audits to evaluate, maintain, and enhance environmental compliance. Prepare and implement Action Plans after each audit to enhance the plant's environmental performance. Assist in global audits of environmental performance data.

  • Provide guidance, direction, and recommendations to plant and management personnel pertaining to current regulations and their interpretation. Interpret regulatory language and provide clear guidance to plants.

  • Conduct negotiations between Lehigh and the regulatory agency for any non-compliance issues in order to obtain the optimum position or outcome for Lehigh Hanson.

  • Assist in the development of strategies for permit applications and discussions between Lehigh Hanson and the various regulatory agencies for permits on existing facilities, alternate fuel usage, plant expansions, and new operating facilities, including RCRA permit applications.

  • Assist the cement production facilities with stack testing.

  • Train Lehigh Hanson's environmental professionals at the various facilities on regulatory applicability and requirements.


  • Minimum experience of ten years in Environmental Compliance with five of those years being in the cement industry

  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local environmental regulatory rules and procedures

  • Knowledge of RCRA regulations preferred

  • Knowledge of the inter-workings of the regulatory agencies

  • Knowledge of working with Industrial Work Groups; PCA, MTC, etc.

  • Knowledgeable of cement manufacturing processes

As the Field Construction Compliance Inspector, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the placement of conduit, manholes, concrete pads, hand holes, inner duct, mule tape, poles, aerial anchors and cable. This position will require independence for meeting multiple task demands, as well as subject matter expertise for maintaining high priority requirements that meet quality, safety and regulatory standards for compliance. * Coordinate and inspect the construction and placement of our facilities along with verification of billing for completed work. * Provide and ensure the pathway for new copper and fiber cables by dispatching outside contractors' to machine or hand rod and clean ducts and place mule tape and/or innerduct to pull or jet copper and fiber cables. * Collaborate with our Engineering and Construction teams on weekly/monthly meetings. * Coordinate and schedule power hookup and electrical work for electronic cabinets. * Complete field inspections to measure the quality and safety of the contractors work. * Ensure all jobs are billed accordingly to the contract language and timely to meet due dates. * Plan and coordinate copper cable removals as requested. * Approve locations for placement of outside plant facilities. * Promptly investigate and resolve customer complaints. * Ensure all jobs are completed and closed out on contractor time sheets to insure major material is dispersed correctly. * Work with municipal authorities ensuring work is done to the proper specifications. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: * Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience. * Three or more years of relevant work experience. * Experience in Outside Plant construction. * Experience reading engineering work orders. * Knowledge and experience of aerial plant placement and buried in underground plant placement. * Willingness to travel. * Valid driver's license. Even better if you have: * A degree. * Four or more years of experience in an outside plant construction environment. * Strong customer negotiation and communication skills. * Ability to multitask on various priorities and projects while delivering on tight timelines. * Experience with MS Excel, Work, Outlook, & PowerPoint. * Cross-functional team management experience.
