Job Title:Environmental Compliance Manager

Job Description:

We are hiring an Environmental Compliance Manager! This position will report directly to the Director, Corporate Environmental Compliance and will be responsible for oversight and coordination of action plans developed through the company's third party environmental audit program and the company's internal investigations.

This position will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement of environmental training programs working collaboratively with the Corporate Training Manager (CTM) and Operating Line Training Managers (OLTM's).

Additionally, this position is responsible for oversight and coordination of actions resulting from the third party audit program and the internal investigations program. Lastly, this position will maintain close relations with the CTM and OLTM teams to ensure continuous improvement of Environmental training programs:

Essential Functions:

Third Party Audits (TPA)

  • Ensure audit findings are entered into the audit tracking system timely

  • Monitor root cause analysis development and assigned actions for effectiveness

  • Monitor implementation dates of action plans

  • Coordinate Fleet wide action plans through Operating Line Compliance Managers (OLCM's)

  • Assist in preparation of reports to the HESS Committee, Chief Maritime Officer, Corporate Compliance Manager and any other stakeholders

  • Monitor trends and KPI's to identify specific areas of opportunity or concern

  • Maintain oversight of internal HESS audit findings as relates to Environmental matters

Investigations

  • Assist as appropriate with internal investigations of Environmental incidents

  • Ensure promulgation of immediate lessons learned to appropriate persons

  • Monitor implementation of actions resulting from investigations

  • Maintain oversight of the weekly HESS flash reports and assist Manager, legal affairs with follow up questions from the Court Appointed Monitor team.

Environmental Training Program

  • Work closely with the CTM and OLTM's to ensure Environmental Training programs remain current and effective

  • Provide direct input into development and enhancement of training programs from data gathered through audit reports, investigation reports and other available sources.

  • Provide support and input to the CSMART training facility as relates Environmental training matters

Communications

  • Develop environmental related content for compliance notices, case studies and newsletters as part of the Operation Oceans Alive program

  • Develop environmental related content for video communications

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the policy group to ensure development and enhancement of clear and effective Environmental Management System related procedures

  • Work closely with the quality assurance group ensuring that important environmental related information is shared with Fleet Captains and Chief Engineers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Environmental Sciences, long term shipboard experience as a Marine Engineer or Environmental Officer will also be considered

  • At least five (5) years' experience in Marine/Technical Operations and/or Environmental Regulations

  • Experience working in a highly complex environment with a key skill of maintaining relationships and coordinating execution of continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong ability to interface with all levels, departments, Operating Companies and external parties

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly organized with an eye for detail

  • Less than 25% of time traveling
