Who are we looking for?

Woodard & Curran has an opportunity for a mid-level engineer/scientist who can support and manage environmental and regulatory compliance projects and provide innovative and superior services to our industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional clients. In this role, you will report directly to Project and Client Managers in our national Environmental Services Practice and work with a diverse and talented group of engineers and scientists at the firm. The ideal candidate is a mid-level engineer/scientist with strong technical experience delivering innovative, technically superior environmental consulting services for projects located in the New England area and nationally. You will need to be an energetic, motivated, growth-oriented professional with an ability to work independently as well as lead or participate in multi-disciplined project teams.

What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?

In this position, you will lead and complete technical tasks for environmental and regulatory compliance projects. Typical projects range from air permitting, environmental assessments, program development, regulatory analysis and reporting, and database solutions for environmental compliance requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. The role will also include performing various technical tasks at client facilities, conducting complex technical analyses and calculations, and preparing various types of reports and documents including regulatory programs, audit reports, permit applications, and environmental compliance management-system-related documentation. Report writing and interaction with project staff, clients, and regulatory agencies will also play an important role in the candidate's success.

Primary responsibilities involve technical project execution in the following regulatory program areas:

  • Air emissions permitting and compliance

  • EPCRA

  • EHS compliance auditing

  • Wastewater/stormwater permitting, monitoring, and reporting

  • Hazardous waste management

  • SPCC/SWPPP/ICP development

Other business, technical, and staff development opportunities include:

  • Preparation of proposals, attending professional networking events, identifying project opportunities, making technical presentations for market visibility, and maintaining active networking with existing and new clients

  • Maintaining technical leadership for the local practice area

  • Identifying areas for technical improvement and investment

  • Integrating and expanding junior and mid-level staff into projects

  • Assisting with the development of the technical skills of the staff

  • Mentoring staff

  • Participating in annual business planning activities

  • Participation in monthly business development meetings

You should be a self-starter and possess strong field, Excel, and writing skills to support a wide range of science and engineering projects. You must also have excellent oral communication skills combined with leadership ability, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field from an accredited program.

  • Strong appreciation of and commitment to safe work practices is mandatory.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in the environmental consulting business.

  • Demonstrated performance of analysis, problem solving, and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and on large multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Outstanding written, Excel, and oral skills.

  • Ability to mentor and develop a project team.

The work will involve engineering design, preparing feasibility studies, and construction support completed under the guidance of senior staff. Wood's North Atlantic Operations is a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture team of 150+ staff that offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US. Key Responsibilities: The position will involve environmental remediation including, but not limited to remedial design of treatment systems, report preparation, submittal reviews, support for water and wastewater permitting and compliance activities, contamination assessment, construction, and operation and maintenance support. This position offers the opportunity to work with a large and diverse team of design engineers to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles/responsibilities: * Prepare work plans, sampling and analysis plans, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans * Prepare environmental permit applications (e.g., air permitting, wastewater discharge permitting, etc.) * Prepare CERCLA and or RCRA engineering evaluations, feasibility studies, treatment systems designs, and develop cost estimates * Prepare engineering evaluations, feasibility studies, treatment systems designs, and develop cost estimates * Prepare and/or review plans, specifications, and special provisions for construction projects * Complete projects in a timely and accurate manner. Work outside of normal work hours may be required on occasion. * Review and comment on contractor submittals * Track payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals * Perform construction oversight * Conduct construction closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, record drawings, and contract closeout * Daytime travel and overnight (up to a week or more) travel required, as needed * Overtime required, as needed * Have and maintain a valid driver's license, work outdoors in various weather conditions and frequently lift up to 35 pounds Skills / Qualifications Basic/Required Qualifications: * BS in Environmental/Chemical Engineering * 0 to 5 years of engineering/consulting experience with a focus on remedial design including water treatment, soil vapor extraction and treatment, in-situ remediation * Experience with CERCLA and or RCRA projects for DoD or US EPA * Working knowledge of CERCLA requirements * Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills * Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail * Strong computer skills and organizational abilities * Ability and willingness to travel to project sites - Anticipated travel expected to be less than 10% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible * Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs * Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy Preferred Qualifications: * MS in Environmental/Chemical Engineering * Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification * Experience preparing engineering designs for water and vapor treatment including process and instrumentation diagrams * Experience in preparing cost estimates * 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team * Self-starter and lifelong learner Company Overview Wood is a global leader in engineering and consultancy across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world's most critical challenges.
