Looking for an Environmental Compliance Coordinator to oversee compliance of the hazardous waste management, underground storage tank and EPCRA Tier II programs as well as Air and Wastewater permit compliance. This position will report to the Environmental Compliance Program Director Supervisor and will manage compliance for 29+ hospitals across six states and various regulatory agencies. As an Environmental Compliance Coordinator you will collaborate with EHS personnel and facility contacts to monitor waste generation, prepare permit reports and act as a liaison between Banner Health and regulatory agencies.

Job Summary

This position assumes responsibility for planning, directing, and monitoring of comprehensive, system based projects. This position works with facility, regional and system leadership and outside regulatory agencies to develop related programs, policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies regarding environmental compliance and pollution prevention related issues. Acts as a liaison with these agencies regarding environmental compliance concerns at each designated hospital/facility.

Functions as an environmental compliance officer and pollution prevention planner and Chairs the system Environmental Leadership committee. Participates on various internal and external environmental, health & safety, facilities/construction, and administrative management and regulatory committees.

Establishes and maintains an Environmental Management System for the organization. Develops and performs environmental compliance audits, pollution prevention plans, and educational sessions related to regulatory compliance as appropriate.

Manages environmental regulatory compliance reporting and notifications as required by 40 CFR: Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Universal Waste Management, Spill Prevention Control Countermeasure Plans, Underground Storage Tanks, Emergency Planning & Community Right to Know, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Toxic Substances Control Act.

Monitors all relevant environmental legislation and apprises leadership of potential impacts to facilities. Performs cost/benefit analysis of process and procedure changes required by regulatory standards. Acts as project manager for environmental-impact related projects.

Develops and maintains system policy for environmental compliance and pollution prevention planning. Assists facility leadership with measuring performance in accordance with the Joint Commission Accrediting Healthcare Organizations EC.3.10 and development of hazardous materials & waste plans.

Monitors hospital/facility based wastewater, underground storage tank, air quality, and hazardous materials/waste disposal programs for compliance with permit conditions and/or regulatory requirements. Develops and implements best management practices.

Establishes the organization as an environmental stakeholder within the community and promotes environmental compliance and pollution prevention planning both within internal facilities and outside organizations. This includes working on system-wide taskforces and/or committees, as needed.

Within the first 90 days in this role, completes initial 40-hour OSHA 29 CFR HAZWOPER training, as well as completes initial 16-hour RCRA training. Maintains certifications through annual eight-hour refresher courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a strong knowledge of engineering, environmental science, industrial technology or in the natural or applied sciences as normally demonstrated through a degree in one of these areas.

Knowledge of requirements for applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies. Must possess a strong knowledge in environmental compliance and pollution prevention programs as normally demonstrated through five years experience in environmental compliance and pollution prevention within a healthcare setting.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Position requires proficiency in personal software applications, including word processing, generating spreadsheets, and creating graphics/presentations.
