What can you expect?

As the Environmental Chemist II, you will utilize their knowledge and experience to verify and validate analytical data on environmental projects. Additional duties include providing support for the preparation of work plans, reports, sampling, and analysis plans (SAPs)/quality assurance project plans (QAPPs) (including UFP-QAPPs); data validation and data management; communicating with the subcontract laboratory; review of technical documents; and database management. Your personal initiative, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline-driven so must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment.

How will you do it?

  • Support environmental investigations and assessments in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by Project Management staff.

  • Provide data review and validation according to EPA, ADEC (or other State), and DoD specifications, including data quality reports.

  • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives, controlling time and expenditures to achieve project goals.

  • Work with technical staff in support of project objectives and field operations.

  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, and coordination to project staff preparing written project documentation.

  • Evaluate and select data collection methods and procedures to be employed in site surveys and investigations.

  • Actively participate in creating a positive team environment

  • Support project planning and proposal responses.

  • Supports technical review of chemistry documents.

  • Supports junior chemist staff.

  • Multi-tasks to manage time.

  • Manage company resources to ensure proper deliverables.

  • Actively participate in a proactive safety culture

  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

  • Perform other duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the practical application of environmental science and technology.

  • Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems, and logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Access proficiently.

  • Knowledge of EQuIS database management preferred, though not required.

  • Knowledge of DoD databases such as ERPIMS and FUDSChem preferred, though not required.

  • Must have the ability to review laboratory data and generate data quality reports.

  • Ability to act as an effective team member.

  • Ability to effectively manage tasks and be self-directed in meeting deliverables.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships.

  • Ability to develop and expand knowledge.

  • Ability to develop business acumen.

Who is Brice Engineering looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Environmental Studies, or other related discipline required.

  • Five to ten years of experience providing analytical review/validation and support on environmental projects.

  • Stage 2A/2B data review knowledge required; Stage 4 review is preferred, though not required.

  • Three to five years working in an environmental analytical laboratory can count towards experience if related to quality control/quality assurance.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations/guidance for Alaska; knowledge of other states and territories is preferred, though not required.

  • Knowledge of SW-846 methodology and sample handling requirements.

  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Brice Engineering's Driving Policy.

  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.
