About the job:

The Chemist 1 will be responsible for leading the analytical process for the Particulate Matter Monitoring Program described in 40 CFR 50, Appendix L . Particulate Matter is monitored to measure attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

A day iin the life:

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain two Clean Rooms

  • Assist with Ambient sampling schedule

  • Manage filters from ordering supplies, sample preparation and analysis, to final step of archiving

  • Ensure compliance with all quality control requirements

Preferred Experience:

Four (4) years full-time professional experience as an analytical chemist in an environmental field. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college. (Major in Chemistry required). SUBSTITUTION: Accredited graduate training in the above area may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Experience with gravimetric analysis is required.

The EC2 will be responsible for the analysis of canister samples from Urban Air Toxic monitoring sites for sixty two organic compounds listed in the U.S. EPA's TO-15 methodology. The EC2 will assist with the operation the Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Station (PAMS) and metals analysis on the AA. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: * operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Mass Spectrometer (MS), Flame Ionization Detector (FID), and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AA) to analyze ambient air samples * generating and/or reviewing data to determine the regional ambient air quality and its impact on the National Ambient Air Quality Standards * developing and/or reviewing Standard Operation Procedures What we are looking for: Two (2) years full-time professional experience as an analytical chemist in an environmental field.
