Summary Promotes environmental, safety and health protection and regulatory compliance within the corporation, primarily at the Georgia-based facilities. Maintains knowledge of current environmental laws, applicable safety standards, advises management on environmental business issues, implements compliance programs and is instrumental in proactive pollution prevention and safety and health improvement measures. Utilizes auditing expertise and Management System activities to help maintain compliance and improve environmental, safety and health performance. Maintains compliance records, completes regulatory reports, trains associates and coordinates activities with outside contractors, consultants, suppliers and government officials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs environmental, safety and health regulatory audits of Mannington Georgia facilities (and other facilities as needed) for compliance and improvement opportunities. Proposes and facilitates corrections.

  • Advises management on regulatory changes and promotes compliance by developing pro-active, Management System based programs to meet requirements. Analyzes impacts to the business such as budgeting, operating practices, purchasing, research and development, training, sustainability, product stewardship, and community relations.

  • Initiates and implements projects that will proactively improve environmental performance while also improving the companys long-term profitability.

  • Evaluates and audits current and proposed manufacturing practices for environmental, safety and health compliance. Develops or improves applicable local policies and standard operating procedures that meet state, federal, and company requirements.

  • Manages the process to ensure all new and proposed production and R&D chemicals are evaluated for SH&E compliance and facility best practices prior to use to ensure proactive safety and environmental compliance and reduce personnel exposures.

  • Supports and participates in Emergency Response activities as needed and in support of GA sites operations. Expected to visit site post-incident to support investigation and corrective action development for significant incidents and injuries or as requested.

  • Selects the appropriate methods for implementing environmental and social responsibility while maintaining business competitiveness. Pro-active in reducing unnecessary costs, waste, raw material, hazardous chemical and energy use in plant operations.

  • Acquires environmental permits for pollution control activities and makes sure plants operate within requirements. Manages regulatory inspection process for local, state and federal agencies during onsite inspections.

  • Oversees and/or performs inspections, testing, sampling and reports data to various local, state, and federal government agencies as required.

  • Ensures environmental regulatory compliance related permits, compliance plans, and associated records are consistent with current Georgia-based (and other states as appropriate) operations and facilities. Renews environmental permits on time, prior to expiration dates and evaluates permitting needs for new or modified equipment. Ensures required regulatory fees and reports are paid in a timely manner.

  • Maintains records of environmental performance data and reports progress to management.

  • Arranges for and/or assists operations with transportation and disposal of wastes off-site in a timely, safe, economical and legal manner. Manages and maintains waste manifest requirements.

  • Maintains membership in outside environmental and industry organizations. Keeps current training certifications and licenses.

  • Maintains high level of integrity in environmental programs and is dedicated to continual improvement of manufacturing processes to reduce environmental impacts. Has a high standard for maintaining appearance of plants and integrity of protective measures. Also enforces safety policies in plants.

  • Supports and participates in ISO 14001 based Systems and Activities as necessary to maintain ISO Registrations and continually improve the organizations Environmental Performance. Participates in document control of the Calhoun and Madison Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

  • Responds to internal and external requests for data/information. Prepares reports and presentations.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of industry Sustainability Assessment Standards (i.e.

  • NSF/ANSI 140 and NSF/ANSI 332)
  • Works effectively in teams and independently as required. Teams can consist of internal and external parties. This function goes outside of company boundaries and teams can be with diverse industry groups and/or competitors.

  • Assists and periodically leads safety and health initiatives as needed to assist with Safety Performance improvement initiatives and standard work.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year College or university (Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering preferred; will also entertain Environmental Sciences/Studies with applicable experience) and 3+ years related experience in safety, environmental and manufacturing systems.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SAP, SharePoint, and Outlook required. Understanding of Georgia EPD and EPA portal for regulatory reporting for each facility.
