The Environmental Affairs Specialist will have the following duties and responsibilities that may include the following:

  • Function as subject matter expert supporting a variety of environmental matters

  • Provide support to Navistar facilities in day-to-day environmental duties, which includes understanding all applicable environmental laws and regulations

  • Ensure facility's compliance, correcting noted violations as soon as possible

  • Managing legacy liabilities, including CERCLA cases

  • Environmental due diligence

  • Key part of the sustainability team, managing metrics and goals and helping prepare sustainability reports

  • Support corporate activities such as training, internal auditing, developing or modifying environmental policy and procedures, and compliance assurance

  • Other duties as required

Position Purpose and Requirements

Develops and implements the organization's positions on environmental policy issues regarding the impact of the organization's operations on water, air and land quality. Designs and implements programs to ensure healthful and safe working conditions and compliance with all environmental regulations, including clean air and hazardous waste disposal, on the organization's premises. Serves as a liaison with external government environmental agencies. Monitors programs and maintains up-to-date records required by environmental permits to ensure government compliance.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of regulatory affairs / government relations experience

OR

  • Master's degree and at least 3 years of regulatory affairs / government relations experience

OR

  • At least 7 years of regulatory affairs / government relations experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

  • Exposure to and working familiarity with regulations in each media including air, land and water (Clean Air Act, RCRA, CWA & NPDES, EPCRA, CERCLA, SARA, HazMat), with a particular strength in at least one area

  • Superfund project management and environmental due diligence experience

  • Experience as part of an environmental audit team

Desired Skills:

A combination of some the following skills is highly beneficial

  • PE strongly desired

  • QEP, CHMM, RAB Lead Auditor Certification a plus

  • Product stewardship experience a plus

  • ISO 14001 experience desired

  • International experience beneficial

  • Comfortable working on sustainability issues, including developing metrics and goals and corporate sustainability initiatives

  • Must have the ability to develop good working relationships with regulatory agencies and must have experience working with environmental consultants and lawyers

  • Energy management and auditing experience a plus

  • Organizational agility

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Presentation skills

  • Comfortable dealing with Higher Management

You will provide technical leadership to operations in order to help drive value creation through improvement in global EH&S performance, while assuring comprehensive operational compliance to relevant legal and other requirements. *This role is open to other locations. Essential Functions: 1. Provides mentorship, oversight and technical guidance to operations on specific EH&S requirements and standards, inquiries relating to global practices, compliance issues and customer concerns, questions, or challenges. 2. Monitors global activity (multi-jurisdictions) in the area of EH&S regulations and customer requirements in order understand the impact to our operations. Communicates the impacts of existing and emerging regulatory changes to the business to ensure alignment of current and future practices and resources. 3. Benchmarks best practices and develops programs and tools to assist in improving EH&S performance. Assists in the implementation of policies, procedures and tools through direct interface with the operations. Facilities in EH&S knowledge sharing across the organization. 4. Supports the global EH&S audit program by assisting operations in effective root cause analysis to ensure long term closure of identified risks. Participates in audit events as needed in order to provide technical guidance and understand organizational risks. 5. Advises Molex management on EH&S risks related to the design and construction of new facilities. Participates in due diligence activities such as business purchases and property acquisitions as needed. Supports integration of new businesses. 6. Supports the development and implementation of global EH&S software tools to help support EH&S compliance activities. 7. Analyzes current and historical results of metrics to identify actionable opportunities, develop ideas, and make recommendations to improve performance in support of the EH&S Excellence Vision. 8. Assists in the establishment of short and long-range global EH&S goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. 9. Actively participates in major incident reviews, including assessment of root causes and corrective actions. Communicates and facilitates information sharing to assist in preventing reoccurrence. 10. Understand, support and comply with current Molex policies and practices related business programs. Including but not limited to government regulations, International Standards Organization (ISO) and Environmental, and/or Health and Safety (EH&S), Six Sigma & Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Management Systems. Position Qualifications Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in environmental health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety or similar field * Minimum of 7 years of environmental, health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications: * Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred * Experience working for an international company with multi-site operations * Experience working in a position of influence (vs. direct reporting structure) Skills & Abilities: * Strong working knowledge of US-based environmental, health and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT) * Ability to apply sound judgment, ethical values, and analytical tools for effective problem solving * Self-starter, ability to manage workload in a well-organized and effective manner * Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel from various departments and geographies * Strong project management skills that demonstrate the ability to initiate, plan, schedule, assess risks, and execute all aspects of a complex project * Strong written and verbal communication skills.
