Major Duties

Position Summary:

Ensure Division facilities comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations. Eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and/or property/product damage.

Has regular contact with employees at all levels of the operation, including plant and Division management.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate operations and initiate programs to insure compliance with applicable EHS policies, regulations, principles, and practices.

  • Assist in the identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of engineering knowledge, skill, and abilities.

  • Review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as needed.

  • Coordinate and audit plant incident investigation process. Lead audit teams to identify pre-injury trends, determine compliance with established safety/health procedures and recommend appropriate actions. Perform follow up on corrective actions.

  • Measure progress toward the attainment of plant safety goals using injury exposure as well as injuries/incidents as parameters.

  • Plan, develop, revise/update, and deliver training programs to employees at multiple facilities and at all levels of the Division.

  • Facilitate meetings including, safety team meetings, problem solving teams/meetings, and EHS planning meetings. Facilitate and manage plant safety committee activities.

  • Keep accurate and timely records and deliver reports, such as OSHA, RCRA, SARA, and EPA reports, per scheduled deadlines.

  • Supervise plant compliance with established written programs.

  • Participates and supports plant 5S + Safety program

Qualifications:
4 year college degree required
2-5 Years of experience in manufacturing plant level EHS coordination.

Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.

Here's what you will be assigned to do: * Verify that meat and poultry slaughter and/or processing establishments' Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans meet regulatory requirements and are being executed effectively to prevent unsanitary conditions and adulteration of product. * GS-9 (SJ-519a): Performs the full range of duties associated with verifying plant HACCP and SSOP plans, sampling, and related activities regarding a multitude of commercial operations and facilities. Learns to adapt to covering a wide variety of operations involving the full range of HACCP processing categories. * GS-10 (SJ-519) Involves working in a relief capacity in plants of all types, and often incorporating a district's entire geographic area. Addresses a variety of problems and issues for which there may be several possible courses of action contained in a wide range of established regulations, practices, and procedures. * Independently performs Hazard Analysis Verification (HAV). HAV is an analytical review of establishments' production process in order to ensure regulatory obligations to conduct a food safety hazard analysis. * Review records, observe plant operations and conduct hands-on verification to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will prepare detailed documentation (Non-Compliance Records) of noncompliance with regulatory requirements. You will determine when regulatory control action is necessary.
