Position Summary: This position is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive, Environmental, Health and Safety ("EHS") Program.

The position shall establish the EHS program to protect employees from occupational safety and health hazards, protects assets from fire and life safety hazards, protects the environment from pollution, and complies with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements. Essential Responsibilities Deploy Verdesian EHS strategy, policy, and standards on-site to achieve sustainable results. Assess the current Safety Program's strengths and weaknesses and then implement improvements.

Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls. Influence plan management and drive safety (Be Aware, Take Care Program) and environmental (ESG) leadership through line management. Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and enforce Management of Change (MOC) protocols to manage operational risks.

Oversee environmental compliance, including all permits, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, and pollution prevention practices. Develop and implement waste minimization strategies, ensuring compliance with hazardous waste storage, handling, and disposal regulations. Manage regulatory reporting requirements, permit applications, and environmental documentation to maintain compliance with EPA/RCRA, DOT, and local agency requirements.

Lead regular site audits, inspections, and compliance assessments to continuously improve safety and environmental standards. Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS and environmental training for employees, contractors, and vendors, emphasizing regulatory requirements, safe practices, and environmental protection. Implement site-specific safety and environmental programs, including emergency response plans, waste management protocols, and corrective action initiatives.

Lead LEAN projects (5S) within the plant, working with employees in each area to make improvements Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required per EPA and DOT regulations Lead and champion Salt Lake City site emergency response plan Manage to Be Aware, Take Care Program with employees’ participation, daily hazard reviews, and corrective actions Developed and reviewed accident investigations, corrective actions, root causes, and safety alerts Report and analyze EHS and environmental metrics, including waste generation, incident rates, compliance rates, and safety performance indicators. Lead the Safety Committee, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Participates in reviews and approvals of new chemicals to site and facility capital projects Support Lean and 5S initiatives to improve site efficiency and ensure compliance with EHS and environmental standards.

Act as the site’s primary contact with regulatory agencies, preparing for and responding to inspections, inquiries, and compliance audits. Skills Proactive leadership and strong organizational abilities. Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.

Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate teams, with strong attention to safety and compliance. In-depth knowledge of environmental permitting, hazardous waste handling, waste minimization, and pollution prevention strategies. Demonstrated expertise in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement in EHS and environmental performance.

Capacity to drive continuous improvement and manage complex EHS programs with a sense of urgency and high attention to detail. The development, implementation, and support of Leading Indicator programs as deemed appropriate to global EHS and facilities at site Required Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (required). Minimum of 10 years of EHS experience, specifically within chemical manufacturing environments. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification (preferred). Extensive knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC) protocols.

Familiarity with Utah and South Salt Lake City EHS regulatory requirements. Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., VelocityEHS and Enhesa Compliance) is a plus. Travel Requirements: Some travel required, up to 5%, including overnight stays.
