LHB has an opportunity for an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Pipeline/Industrial Team in either our Duluth or Minneapolis, MN offices!

Position Summary:

The responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing mechanical engineering design & drafting/modeling for a variety of Piping Systems Design projects.

  • Assist with project engineers/managers as directed

  • Work closely with clients to meet & exceed their objectives.

  • Performing field verifications, Identifying & organizing acquired field data

  • Ensuring LHB QA/QC processes are followed

  • Design calculations & equipment selection

  • Professional growth into a licensed engineer

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • Upon receipt of an offer of employment, applicants must be able to successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that will include a criminal/civil background check and drug screen, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 0-5 years of previous employment in consulting design

  • Successful completion of FE exam

  • Demonstrated working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and analysis software such as Ceasar II and/ or AFT Fathom

  • Experience using AutoCAD or Revit

  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities

  • Must be willing to travel intermittently

  • Familiarity with hazardous liquid, gas, process and power piping systems

Summary The person in this position will undertake challenging and fast-paced work on environmental impact assessment, permitting, and compliance projects. Projects may involve: conducting environmental impact assessments; communicating with regulatory agencies and client contacts; developing and reviewing environmental permit applications; conducting wetland delineations, inventories, and functional assessments; participating in other field studies; performing desktop threatened and endangered species reviews; and reviewing field reports to verify environmental compliance. The person chosen for this position will work with Barr team members, regulators, clients, and subcontractors. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments in the field or another office. Minimum Qualifications * BS or BA degree in environmental science/studies/policy, ecology, natural resources management, biology, botany, or a related field * Two years of relevant work experience * Effective oral and written communication skills * Exceptional task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following up * Attention to detail * Familiarity with GIS tools * Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) * Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams of specialists and regulators at all levels * Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs * Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship * Acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications * Three to five years of relevant post-undergraduate experience * Advanced degree in related area or specialized experience in the fields of ecology or natural resources * Environmental consulting or regulatory agency work experience * Experience with state and federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes (including EAW EA, and EIS) in the Midwest and/or Inter-Mountain West * Familiarity with socioeconomic screening tools * Experience with wetland delineation, wetland assessments, wetland restoration design and construction, and restoration project contracting and management * Applied knowledge of state and federal endangered species programs * Experience with soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, construction stormwater plans, and site restoration plans NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA mandated physical exam may be required.
