Under direct supervision, the Engineer I will assist in the design development, implementation, and technical analysis of various systems to implement new products, or changes to an existing scheme, to suit individual client needs. He/She will aid senior engineering staff in preparing technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates for various engineering tasks. This individual will work on multiple projects in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet client, contractual and company requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs simple calculations and engineering design assigned at the direction of a mid or senior level engineer using the standards established by federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the company, group, client, etc.

  • Revises calculations or design details developed on the contract drawings upon receiving comments from a technical quality review from senior engineering staff

  • Interprets engineering specifications and solves routine problems by applying defined procedures

  • Develops a familiarity with company standards, client expectations, and typical engineering practices

  • Accompanies senior engineering staff on field assignments when appropriate

  • Adheres to project budgeting process

  • Performs other appropriate related engineering duties

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • No prior experience required; however, prior internship(s) and/or applicable coursework preferred

  • Demonstrates a strong willingness to learn about the respective engineering discipline

  • Has a strong theoretical knowledge in the respective engineering field

  • Familiar with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required

  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment with the willingness to assist mid and senior level engineering and project management staff

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Participation in a professional engineering society/organization preferred

The Atlas team is a software solutions group supporting automated aeronautical chart creation and data validation within the FAA. The team is expanding and seeks a software engineer who can develop, maintain, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.
