Your Opportunity

You will work with direct guidance and supervision on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer / Designer.

You will be involved in civil engineering and geotechnical tasks related to technical work involving components of infrastructure projects focusing on dams and hydropower projects, pumped hydropower, tunnels and to a lesser degree, water and wastewater projects. Activities include civil engineering planning and analysis, technical writing, design calculations, specifications and drawings that are related to the development of hydropower and dams infrastructure projects during early phases of the project life cycle. Tasks may include preliminary project conceptual planning phase and design phase work, although you may participate in projects that have matured to a later stage including: construction, testing and start up, operation and maintenance, modification and upgrade, and decommissioning phases. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered structures or planning, designing heavy civil geotechnical projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Uses knowledge of the general concepts of relevant geotechnical engineering elements including design, work planning, budgeting and scheduling in support of the development of scope of project and proposal documents.

  • Assists team in preparing drawings and reports. Conducts basic calculations and Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

  • Assists with basic engineering duties on projects of various complexity.

  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of civil design.

  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D and any other relevant design software and knowledge of calculations performed by the software.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers / Designers

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Summary of Position: Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in managing the subcontractors and suppliers on a project site. Monitors activities at construction sites. Works to ensure construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to. Inspects construction site daily and works with contractors to schedule deliveries. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Observes how to manage a project. * Reviews construction documents for problems and conflicts. * Updates and monitors all construction documents with changes. * Inspects and thoroughly walks site looking for unsafe practices, unauthorized personnel, product deficiencies or improper construction methods and reports all unsafe work practices to supervisor. * Inspect all foundations prior to concrete placement, verifies dimensions, cleans beam bottoms, checks cable chairs, verifies proper cable clearance and coverage, etc. * Ensures work progress of subcontractors and that reports are accurately completed. Submits daily reports and weekly safety meeting minutes. * Accepts deliveries, verifies quantities, and notes any discrepancies. * Develops, organizes, and tracks office documents assigned by Project Manager and Superintendent. * Helps create, distribute and manage punch list to all rough trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, phone, TV, fire and framing). * Prepares and submits daily man count reports that document the number of workers on the construction site in the morning and afternoon. * Checks all rough trade work and walk truss inspections with the Project Manager and Superintendent. * Complies with all Company safety policies. Job Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related study is required. * At least 1 year of experience in construction is required; preferably multi-family construction. * Knowledge of construction management theory and practice. * Knowledge of PC and construction and business software including scheduling, estimating, spreadsheets and word processing. * Excellent computer skills — Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Internet. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Attention to detail and ability to proof your own work and the work of others. * Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and follow-up and carry multiple projects through to completion. * Must have the ability to operate an automobile.
