This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when

required for work.

Purpose

This position will need to provide entry level skills for the installation, repair and maintenance of telephone equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the installation and routine or emergency maintenance and/or repair of telecom cabling and network equipment. Driving university owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this position. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157.

  • Reads schematic diagrams to install telecommunication wires and equipment.

  • Maintains physical and online data records on Pinnacle and other databases.

  • Creates pathway and pulls wires for data, voice, security purposes.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 1 year of experience installing telecommunications horizontal cabling.

  • Experience using Microsoft windows software, basic computer skills.

  • Class "C" driver's license

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years' experience installing horizontal telecommunications cabling.

  • Experience installing wireless access points.

  • Experience in a telecommunications or construction field working at the University of Texas at Austin

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be

obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle.

Salary Range

$39,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday - Friday 7:30am-4pm, Occasional overtime and/or on-call may be required for this position.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
