  • Minimum 15+ years of business experience or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of related consulting experience in a professional services Firm environment preferred.

  • Recognized for deep skills and passion as a specialist in specific industries/service(s) area(s) (e.g., any combination of industry or service areas such as; supply chain, profitability, logistics, procurement, revenue growth, retail, manufacturing, consumer, process industries, aerospace, high tech, business services, restaurant, automotive, etc.)

  • Consistent track record of successfully structuring and leading client engagements to desired results, delivering hard dollar savings meeting or exceeding client expectations.

  • High energy style, flexible and adaptive, with the ability to work well in a very fast paced environment.

  • Understands and adapts to complex client environments and situations. Skilled at defining, communicating, motivating and inspiring change at executive levels and across the broader community of stakeholders.

  • Master negotiator, proficient with complex/sophisticated negotiations

  • Views problems from the 'big picture POV', recognizing critical areas to drive into more detail. Quickly structures approaches to solve complex problems. Balanced and flexible, anticipates and changes direction as necessary.

  • Synthesizes information rapidly and applies good business discernment driving quickly to deep insights into possible impacts and solutions.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications.

  • Openness for up to 100% travel M-F.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or foreign equivalent. Master's degree and/or certification in related specialty area(s) preferred

SUMMARY The Communications Business Enterprise Director, under the direction of the Executive Director, Public Relations, is a member of senior leadership team for Public Relations department with oversight of strategic and tactical communications/media relations priorities for business enterprise efforts. Owns portfolio of responsibilities as well as leadership role for four direct reports. Portfolio includes Corporate Alliances, Sponsorships, Development, Cancer Network and Houston Area Locations. The director provides counsel to organizational leaders, departments and programs about effective external communication and media relations opportunities, and is responsible for relationship management with senior leaders, including development of thought leadership platforms. The director partners with ED of PR and other communications directors to manage sensitive issues. Co-manages relationship with national PR agency with Director, Communications, Clinical Care and Research. The position occupies a highly visible role within the institution, and works collaboratively with many stakeholders to contribute to MD Anderson's mission and success. KEY FUNCTIONS Strategic direction and oversight Leads PR efforts and media strategy for MD Anderson's business enterprise portfolio, which includes Sponsorships, Corporate Alliances, Development, Cancer Network and Houston Area Locations. Manages team of PR professionals to develop plans and establish goals that advance MD Anderson's position via media relations and all relevant channels. Acts as strategist and consultant on PR efforts to relevant audiences, including executives, faculty, managers, project leads and other important constituents. Conceives, maintains and oversees content for portfolio to provide relevant and timely news, information and promotion. Co-leads PR agency relationship. Develops and facilitates thought leadership platform for key leaders. Assist ED of PR with issues management relevant to portfolio. Successful performance will include: * The cultivation of strong, positive relationships with executives, employees, colleagues, patients and other constituents; * Management of successful PR efforts that are aligned with MD Anderson's strategic goals, Institutional Advancement and Communications Office goals, and our institutional brand standards; * Leadership and direction of MD Anderson's Business Enterprise PR team; * Tapping into extensive media relationships for story placement on a national level; * Leads national medical/business meeting efforts and coordinates media activity, including onsite support, as needed; * Development of comprehensive communications for relevant areas; * Prompt and accurate response and routing of beat needs; * Knowledge and implementation of departmental resources (media list database, release distribution platform, agency support, etc.); * Collaboration with IA colleagues to enhance content creation and sharing, message consistency and full integration; * Ensuring patient information protection in communications, such as in accordance with HIPAA; * Following and reporting on media interests, trends in coverage and issues; * Ensuring brand compliance of all written and visual collateral of, and for, constituents; * Monitoring and success measurement of efforts. Relationship management and consultation Serves as frontline contact for institutional leaders. Elevates urgent or priority information to relevant contacts to ensure team is informed and the institution is promoted and protected at all times. Develops and facilitates thought leadership platforms for key leaders. Maintains close relationships with media contacts (local and national) and develops new relationships to advance efforts. Fosters strong working relationship with ED of PR and other PR directors. Continuously works to support and grow Business Enterprise team members while helping to develop relationships among PR team as a whole. Integrates with other Institutional Advancement peers to maximize distribution of PR content via earned, owned and paid channels. Attends all relevant meetings for IA and institutional work areas with a goal of meeting new people and exploring opportunities. Works closely with PR agency to advance key initiatives and provide appropriate support for announcement, media training, events, milestones, issues, etc. Measurement and analytics Tracks and analyzes PR efforts on an ongoing basis to make informed decisions about next steps and success measurements. REQUIREMENTS Experience: Required: Ten years of experience working in a communications program to include five years of supervisory/management experience. With preferred degree, eight years of required experience. Preferred: Experience covering business/development and medical topics with a background in media/public relations.
